I would say something else snarky but I'm preaching to the choir here. How do we explain to people that if A and B are bad and A is worse, you should still try to prevent B too? It seems like common sense.

The most common remark I get from people who are not taking this seriously is "well those old people were going to die sooner or later". I just in general don't talk to those people anymore, it's exhausting and bad for my health (literally).

Well when you consider we went through a couple of years of rampant paranoia over every stray box that might be a bomb or substance that might be anthrax, had years of additional racism toward middle easterners, got the patriot act on the books only to never come off, and sparked a war with the wrong country only to have that turn into a never ending quagmire, yeah, I'd say we over reacted and poorly reacted due to much of the same "better safe that sorry" mindset that doesn't think long term so long as we fight terrorism, ...I mean covid 19.
