Finally watching it since CBS is doing a free month trial and my morbid curiosity is worth that much.

Just finished episode 2. Glad to see they're going with the "fuck classic aesthetic. We're going to make a prequel with technology generations more advanced than the original". That's always a good mark of quality.

What's with the Klingons? Why did they think their OC design somehow fits into established lore? Also, why do they talk like they have a mouth full of marbles?

Michael was raised by Vulcans but is wildly emotional, irrational, and ineloquent.

She literally just said "if we kill T'kuvma we'll turn him into a martyr that they can fight for forever". Her next step in this genius plan was to immediately set her phaser to kill and blast a hole in his chest.

Why is everyone's uniform the same? Do they not have departments or even rank?

I mean shit, even her name is completely illogical let alone everything about the character is un-Vulcan-like. Whole series and Picard molded from the Abrams/Kurtzman ST films so get used to alot of "wait, but..." stuff.

Yeah. Apart from all of the characters being awful, it's a decent sci-fi show. It's just not by any stretch Star Trek.

Wait, they have synthesizers too?

Saru's threat ganglia. Why do I get the feeling that will be inconsistent throughout the show? Also what the heck do they do?

Starfleet just abandoned the Shenzhou at the battle site? Also, the klingon flagship has also just been sitting there for over six months? What the fuck are they doing?

I do like that the klingons speak klingon to each other. One of my small problems with old Trek.

The giant monster is a fucking water bear?

Someone should really turn up the dramatic lighting in the ship. Doesn't seem like a good working environment.

Did they just compare Elon Musk to the Wright brothers and Zefram Cochrane?

And she let the unkillable water bear loose in the room to try and kill it with a rifle. Good plan.

Now Mike is gonna choose the welfare of her new friend water bear over all of the federation, isn't she?

This time loop episode is incredibly stupid.

Tried watching that a while ago. Seth MacFarlane is insufferable. Might be some decent sci-fi buried in there somewhere but it's not worth digging.

I've never cared much about "prequel drama doesn't count" but this is some revolutionary tech and I don't imagine they're really going to explain why it doesn't work out.

Do we ever find out more about the android woman? They just randomly cut to her for half a second whenever they're on the bridge and she makes a robot noise. It's bothering the shit out of me that they apparently have an android officer.

I'd say this was the worst Star Trek series, but we also have Picard.

Honestly... Discovery is still better than Enterprise.

I dispute that.

ENT was supposed to take place before the Federation was formed, and showed Vulcans as they really were: nasty and vicious manipulators. DIS takes a big plop on canon, has horrible writing, and has terrible acting. Say what you will about ENT, at least there were good actors in it. Archer might have been stupid enough to take his dog to a diplomatic mission to wee on the trees, but at least he actually learned from his mistakes.

In DIS we're supposed to take the side of a woman who literally eats people because she's going to get her own show.

DIS is part of the main verse. This was said repeatedly and it may tie into Picard at one point.

Personally I'm hoping the timey wimey ball bibbly blobs up DIS and every dumb thing it introduced (the Klingon War, the Spore Drive, trying to grimly deconstruct the mirror universe) goes away.

it's complete bullshit. it's in the same timeline as TOS-ENT. they just took a decent amount of liberties with established canon. it's salvageable, imo, but some of the explanations will be up to the viewers to accept or not.
