The virus wasn't treated seriously for over a month in China, spread to a ton of people, and a lot of people died in a short amount of time (way more than the number China's been providing). The virus burned through the population and was over quickly, at tremendous cost in lives. That's not the ideal to aspire to. Also worth noting that unlike here, once China did take it seriously, they truly SHUT DOWN for over a month.

The U.S. can't enforce as extreme a shut down as China, and is hoping to not have a massive spike in cases at any one point, which keeps the health care system from being overwhelmed, in return for stretching out the period of infection. So it will probably drag out here longer than it did in China.
And that's assuming it doesn't just come back in a 2nd wave or something.

Oh yeah, with the giant spike they had it should shorten the time. Were looking at a few months beyond May unless theres a second wave.

Yeah I don't expect this current quarntine to last less than 2 months at least. And there will undoubtedly be more to come unless a vaccine or cure is found.

Unless you are in NYC or California, it will be only a month or two (except for schools, even schools in the midwest are shuttered until August).

You should be EXTREMELY wary about China's 're-opening'. It's very likely that it isn't cured at all and, instead, the CCP is reopening the borders to try and build international confidence in the party and restore business relations. China is, very likely, still sick and may even be getting sicker. It's just more politically beneficial in their eyes to force people to work sick and suffer the outbreak than continue quarantine.

Yeah, I take China's COVID numbers with more grains of salt than the average McD's factory goes through in a week. It wouldn't surprise me if they do have it mostly under control in the sense that their case numbers are no longer multiplying rapidly, but I very much doubt the problem's actually gone.
