Cant just be a high proportion of elderly citizens. That disease is running amok, even despite the measures theyve put in place.

They don't give a shit and are as inconsiderate as hell to each other, as in they cough into the air and don't cover or turn away whether in public, in an airplane, from what I hear.

it's because they were morons who thought nothing would happen to them, disregarded every warning to not do shit.

and then shit happened to them.

it's like they went out of their way to do everything wrong that they possibly could, and now it's too late.

They listened the least amount when given warnings, and they kept going out and partying.

Over a quarter of Italy smokes, so that may also explain why their death rate is so high.

That combined with how they didnt take the virus seriously until it was very widespread.

Is social distancing a thing there? I know it's being pushed pretty hard over here but it's hard to say whether or not that will prevent an Italy 2.0

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

yeah we introduced it on Monday IIRC and people urged to stop going to pubs etc.

And then people kept going to pubs etc.

but they all shut now so who knows

Large parts of China are still basically shut down. While their numbers are certainly being fudges it's not that hard to believe they're managing to contain it as they've gone further than anyone else on the issue.

Italy was kind of the wake up call, though it's hard to say if it's worst case or not (Italy is still getting worse). But it shows how the virus can overwhelm the healthcare system and have ripple effects throughout the country, where as previously people were just looking at a 2% mortality rate and downplaying it.
