I just went out and saw plenty of other cars driving around. So I guess there's no mass ticketing going on.

I asked for clarification, but have not heard back, but some wild speculation on my part.

All the research I did says that while the poilice can issue a ticket as it's a misdemenor if your out for a reason that isn't listed (and being on a neighborhood watch isn't one of em), that they won't at least initially do so, not until the have warned someone at least.

The post did mention the neighborhood watch. I messaged my aunt for clarification of why she(her neighbor) got ticketed, but, it's possible that the person was confronting people in the neighborhood. Now you can do a search if you like, but it clearly states in multiple places that if someone is ignoring the order to shelter in place, you should call 311 and report them. It says that is not snitching and it's for the protection of everyone.

Perhaps the person on "neighborhood watch" was getting close to people and asking why they were in the area, someone called 311 and that is why she got a ticket.

No clue, until I hear back and get more info, but it's one scenerio I could imagine happening. There are also just...lets face it....cops that love giving tickets lol. Not all of em, but perhaps the cop was just having a bad day etc. They all have the ability to issue the tickets. Maybe the person was argumentative and when the office said to go home they refused or argued about it etc.

I certainly believe my Aunt, that she was told this, I don't know her neighbor at all, but this was not "on facebook" where tons of people could see it, this was shared between my aunts friends and family only, so it certainly wasn't for attention on her part, and it certainly didn't make her internet famous (There are like 3 replies to it, and now 4 because I asked for clarification.

But yes, from all acccounts, the general way the police are dealing with violations is to warn residents and give them flyers etc telling them to stay home if at all possible.

Here is a link stating you should call 311 if you see someone violating the order. And a quote directly from the article/link.

https://abc7news.com/health/coronavirus-dozens-violate-covid-19-shelter-in-place-order-in-san-jose/6032425/

San Jose police say they have responded to dozens of shelter-in-place violations across the city. Mayor Sam Liccardo reminded residents to stay home and if you see someone violating the shelter-in-place order call 311 to report it. He says it's not snitching -- it's helping.

Bullshit. They aren't issuing tickets to people just because they are outside. I just spent four hours in CA walking down to the beach, drinking a cup of coffee at the wharf, going down the main merchant street to see how empty it was, and then walking back home with a pit stop at a doughnut shop after which I had to sit on a brick wall next to bus station just to eat because all seating around restaurants has been confiscated. I should have received a load of tickets and so should the hundreds of other people that were out and about. Not a single one was written. Honestly, fuck off with that bullshit.

Im currently in New Mexico, planning on driving into California tomorrow, basically moving there

Guess Ill see whether I get ticketed for being out. I cant exactly afford to just keep staying in a hotel or anything so if I were to get pulled over I guess Ill just have to hope theyre understanding.

I think some people are confusing lockdowns with shelter-in-place...?

Illinois just issued a "stay in place" order that is not a lockdown. Read details here: https://www2.illinois.gov/Documents/ExecOrders/2020/ExecutiveOrder-2020-10.pdf

People are still allowed to go around for exercise, get to work, go shopping for essentials, etc. It's mainly aimed at shutting down non-essential businesses and gatherings.

Illinois is doing the same thing! Cannabis shops are grouped under food, beverage and agriculture production. Unfortunately there is like, no available supply for recreational use. Medicinal demand is the main priority.

There may have just been an overzealous cop in Alameda which... is not shocking. It could very well be a way to make themselves look proactive or get more money for the city. I'm in Santa Clara county, and we have still been able to shop and go for walks, but you need to maintain distance when walking. Its possible they didn't maintain distance or the cop just had a chip on their shoulder. Who knows? We don't have all the details.

Yeah I talked to my aunt about it, in fact a bunch of people were asking questions of her, but she just heard it from a neighbor and hasn't seen her since so couldn't elaborate. No clue, neighbor could even have been lying or changing the details etc.

Havn't heard of anyone else getting any tickets for being out ttough, so it's obviously not a wide spread thing.

I know where you're going with this, but no. It's just a problem with big cities.

Well duh.

Many European countries, NY, California all have high population density and are having problems. It's rather obvious. What do you think I meant?
