I really hope they still give me some of that extra money

Pessimistically, probably not. Most of the proposals being floated seem like rushed early drafts meant to be the first out of the gate so that they can claim THEY were the ones who "wrote the damn bill", and in most cases aren't well thought out enough to consider special exceptions like the disabled.

Just so the people saying "just make it Universal" are aware, Pelosi has at least implied that she will reject bills that do not include means-tested payouts.

I'm aware.

If this is the only way it'll pass, so be it, but it's far from ideal

Not my idea, but... it needs to be $1K per adult per month, $500 per child per month, locked-in until GDP and unemployment return to some normal threshold. Otherwise, McConnell will obstruct anything and everything once Biden is in office, and this one drop in the bucket will be all the American people get.

Criticizing this for not being universal seems like you're trying to find any way you can to criticize it, especially when a lot of rhetoric has been going around recently about how rich people "don't pay their fair share".

There's very little reason to make it universal. It would be better to just include the poor without income through a special provision than to send out checks to everyone including the very rich, though neither would pass

You get the full $1,200 per person based on the wording.

The bigger question mark is for people that made between 75 and 100 in 2018. I made like 84 and only claimed the standard deduction so I have no idea where that leaves me.

The better argument to me is that cost of living varies drastically, so we should adjust the income cap up. Just imo. I don't see the logic behind subsidizing millionaires either. A ubi is one argument, but this is a stimulus package. The really wealthy are gonna get plenty of help in other ways

Ah yes, cause young adults who were still living at home in 2018 due to their age or student situation, but have since moved out and are struggling to get their financial lives started even before all this happened but only started working full time in the past year or so can just go fuck themselves then?

A lot of young adults don't have familial support but for whatever reason, due to age or whatever else, didn't have a tax return in 2018. What the fuck do you expect them to do when their restaurant jobs they were working and living paycheck to paycheck on out of necessity closed down because of all this?

2018 sounds dumb. That would screw over a bunch of my younger family members who weren't working in 2018.

I remember similarly getting screwed with the Bush stimulus. I hadn't worked the tax year they needed.

They should be doing it how they do Medicaid in most states. How much have you made so far and how much did you intend to make for the rest of this year. If they lied, they get taxed next year.

Considering 2018 is the latest year the givernment can be fairly certain they have a complete tax liability list, it makes sense to base the checks on that.

Well if you are already on unemployment or welfare those checks are not going to stop. Why do they need more money when their income isn't affected in the first place?

High income earners... yeah they don't need it. Though there is some argument that small business owners could be hit here as they tend to file their earnings under their own income.

So it makes sense to limit the checks to those who are on the low end of the tax payer income lists.

Use your brain.

2019 taxes aren't even due yet.

You can't make relief based on tax form submission that's not even required yet that basically forces everyone to do their taxes immediately to get relief.
