if the brothers were suspected of illegal price gouging TN has strict price gouging laws. These guys are looking at up to a $3000 fine per count, and if I understand correctly per "count" in this case will mean each specific product sold. And not just like "Toilet paper" but like each specific brand of toilet paper they had for sale or whatever other products they had. Doesn't look like there's any jail time associated with it though. https://consumer.findlaw.com/consumer-transactions/price-gouging-laws-by-state.html --- Please, call me Bolt ... I wish I had known more about this when I still had pets. I will carry this guilt always. Don't beat yourself up about this, your pets were fed and cared for which is a better fate than being hungry or alone. --- *plays the Grismal flute* ... Copied to Clipboard!

The major problem I see here is when a corporation does this it isn't a problem. There are drug companies marking essential drugs up many times their price overseas with imports banned. It just seems like American capitalism is a racket for large corporations and the small guys get a different set of rules that the big guys actively pay politicians to write them out of. the medical companies set the market for the drugs since they are the marketplace for them. Its hard to say what gouging is for medicine because we dont know the R&D that went into producing them. there is a market price for all of these products already and these guys are fucking it up by charging 2000% above market on necessary medical supplies and cleaners. the government has every right to step in and seize this stuff given the nature and severity of the issue at hand. they also had the balls and audacity to sit there and say they were providing a service to needy people when they and their ilk are the direct cause of the need. they had already sold a bunch of it and were way ahead of their $17,000 buy in. So if the government gives them a flat fine and no jail time they should consider themselves lucky. Thing is the government as far as im aware had no legal right to seize the property. And they are the ones making the laws. Im not defending these guys I just think it sets a dangerous precedent that people are ok with it. --- Trump 2020 ... Copied to Clipboard!

With how broad civil asset forfeiture is, if the brothers were suspected of illegal price gouging, I believe the items could be legally taken. But regardless, of course government powers are extended during a national emergency. I can back down and agree to that. I just hope the government doesn't just take it for themselves and instead lets a hospital or something have it. --- Cid- "looks like that overgrown lobster just got served!"
