Speaking as a crazy person who likes a lot of these behind the back 3D Sonic Games, I have just booted up Sonic Forces because it's free on PS+.

The 2D movement feels worse than it did in Generations and Unleashed. The 3D movement as well. It all feels worse.

How...does that happen? It is very noticeable worse. How do you make it pretty good and then make it bad again? It's the exact same kind of game, why not just copy and paste??

Having now played an Avatar stage, I am curious as to why you would say something that horrible.

Sometimes I play Phantasy Star Online and then I play Sonic 06 and I go "I don't understand how this is the same dev studio, only five years apart"

The Avatar stages are at least better than any of the Sonic stages.

All the enemy positioning and all of the places your Avatar lands after a jump or ramp are still laid out in a way that implies you should still have a boost. If you don't have a boost then why didn't they put one of these other action on square? Why does Square do nothing?

I mean the flamethrower just deletes everything as long as you hold it down. You can do it while running and still blow up everything. Square is for tag stages.

You homing attack it after it bounces you up in the air.

Why....why would intentionally NOT jump to attack a boss who is hit by attacking them with a homing shot from the air??

I've been jumping when he lands every god damn time! In order to jump attack, I was supposed to NOT JUMP?

Also, on at least 7 occasions, I went into the little zoom up animation for when you are supposed to attack...and it wouldn't let me.

You'd think it wouldn't take 12 minutes to realize something wasn't working and to try something else

From what I understand, Sonic Team sees fit to reinvent the wheel every time they make a new Sonic game. They never actually iterate on any of their ideas, so thats why things fluctuate so much. Its also why even the best ones never go above good. If they had kept working on Colours and Generations, that is an ingredient for sone very good 3D Sonic. But they never actually worked on that.

I know I may be biased with over 110 hours of Unleashed under my belt, but this just feels like a very unintuitive product from initial impressions!

I know it's only like 3 hours long or whatever though, so not like I won't keep at it.

I thought it was fun. I didnt have high expectations though. It was better than Sonic Heroes.
