I picked the Black Eagles route because why not? Seems like they were the most popular. I was tossing up between them or Golden Deer but I thought I'd save Female Byleth for Golden Deer. I'm still really early. Currently preparing to protect the Empress from an assassination attempt (oh yeah I wonder if there were be a battle?).

So uhh this Edelgard gal is already talking about bloodshed and killing all of her enemies so that doesn't sound good.

I'm not completely sure how I should be spending my academy time. I'm mainly going with lunches with my black eagle students and just choosing it a bit randomly. Should I be trying to befriend the other house students and teachers? I actually like the class they start you off with. I generally find it hard to keep up with all of the characters in Fire Emblem but the black eagles seem like a good line up so I'm not too fussed.

If you like some of the other characters try to be friends with them so you can recruit them, but if you don't care for someone just ignore them and focus on your own house. Eating with people a lot is a good idea to get supports and keep everyone's motivation high so you can tutor them as much as possible.

Do the kids from other houses have those social support with the kids in your house or nah?

I'm assuming some of these random characters and the teachers will probably join the party anyway right?

Honestly the only one I've got my eye on so far is the big guy who likes food because there's no real tank character in Black Eagles from what I can tell.

Generally you'll want to try and lure over a couple but sticking with the main characters of your house is pretty good since they all support each other whereas inter-house supports and their accompanying bonuses are not that common. Support conversations are always interesting though.

Lunches and faculty training are usually your best choices for free time. Take note that if you are aiming for a specific student to join you, try and dine with them, give them gifts, and train in the stats they want you to have.

Not sure just how much advice you are looking for so I'll refrain on giving you too much so that you can figure out some things on your own. I find games more enjoyable that way personally.

Go to the menu, go to Support, and you can see which ones are available for each character.

Ferdinand can make an okay tank with some work but I always found him better as a Cavalier type. Shields and battalions can really help make a character difficult to damage.

Ah that's a good idea. From what I can tell there's only really one spare slot anyway.

There's some cross-house supports, as noted above you can check each characters support list to see who supports with who. There's no limit on how many supports you can have or anything so go nuts.

There are characters who join up automatically eventually depending on which route you're on, but some don't join you unless you go out of your way to get them.

I probably shouldn't worry about it much right unless I really like a character? Most of them probably shine on the other routes anyway right?

This slipped my mind but Edelgard makes a great physical tank. Petra makes a good dodge tank.

Bernadetta died and I thought I was playing casual because she was still in the monastery but it turns out she isn't in my roster anymore so I'm starting again because my last saves were after that battle. Oops.

Yeah, I fell for the Black Eagles route, too. Turns out Blue Lions is the best of them all. Top tier route.

I went Golden Deer on my first run and don't regret it for a second. Claude is the best lord personality wise and the only one of them who has his head on right as well. Blue Lions is okay. Black Eagles - Edelgard can go to hell.

Wyvern Lord is hands down the best class in the game and worth considering for any physical character that doesn't have a bane in flying or axes. It's nutty bases can even fix units that are falling behind.

Falcon Knight is pretty darn close and worth considering for any female who doesn't have a bane in flying and doesn't want to be a Wyvern Lord.

Bow Knight is ridiculous in Normal and Hard modes (less great in Maddening). Worth considering for any unit who is good at bows.

Assassin is the best sword infantry class, but not really better than the above. Still probably Byleth's best class if you want to keep him Sword focused and not just make him a Wyvern Lord.

Mages are less easy, but most want to end up as a Gremory for well-roundedness or Dark Knight for movement/offense. Holy Knight is a trap class and should be avoided.

This is assuming you don't have the DLC in which case Dark Flier is a perfectly good endgame magic class, Trickster gives Assassin a run for its money as a Sword infantry class and Mage Knight is a really great intermediate class for mages working their way Dark Knight.

Try to certify into classes ASAP, even if you haven't mastered the class you are currently in. Each class has base stats and when you certify in them, your stats will automatically be bumped up to those bases even if you don't switch into it. You can get kind of creative here. Like having your squishy mage get enough armor skill to give him/her a >30% chance to certify as an armor knight and drastically increase his/her base defense.

Mastering a class gives you skills which you can keep even after changing classes. Weirdly enough, the intermediate classes give probably the best skills with Death Blow (brigand), Fiendish Blow (mage), Darting Blow (Peg Knight), and Hit +20 (archer).

A non-issue if you are running Assassin Byleth (or Petra), but because of reclassing and the ability to buy infinite keys for paltry sums of money means you don't really need a dedicated thief. Enemies don't really carry much worth stealing regularly so if you see on the Map Screen that there is something worth taking, just reclass someone just for that chapter.

Most importantly none of this advice really matter because Normal and Hard modes really aren't very difficult so you can get away with doing whatever you want. So just have fun.

If you're doing multiple playthrough it can be worth it even for bane since you can hard grind levels through teaching and then use renown to skip to the high rank next game.

Why do people tell others who are playing for the first time the best builds and ways to use a unit so frequently.

Does that not take the fun out of it?

If you shoot for the best on your first playthrough you will probably miss but you'll get a much better grasp of what you need to do later.

Says who? The freedom to choose who does what and actually create your own team should be what you do on a first playthrough.

Not maximizing potential to make things easier. Its why anyone can be any class. The player can choose.

This trend is just so annoying if the person never even asked for class tips or anything. People just jump at the chance to give their advice, completely stealing the first playthrough that they experienced from the new guy.

TC could be grateful, but I vehemently dislike it.
