I'm following guides, and I'm still getting my ass kicked after like... 4 ingame days pass. A solar panel malfunctions and catches fire = it's all over, since my three dudes aren't enough to contain the spreading fire because I could only build wooden walls.

I spent a bunch of wood on a chess table, 2 of my dudes are still just idling somewhere out of boredom.

I get a mission to rescue someone from a boomrat, send one dude to kill it, then the boomrat explodes, killing the dude I was supposed to rescue.

God fucking damnit I'm about to give up, which I've never done in any game, ever. Even Darkest Dungeon on Stygian didn't have this much assholery.

I like that game, but i wish it didnt have the world map, i wish it was entirely contained within whatever zone you started in

Don't build fire hazards next to wood. Lay down a bit of concrete to make a fire barrier.

Not everyone enjoys the same type of entertainment. You need to have a diversity of entertainment options to please everyone.

You're not going to be able to save everyone. People are going to sometimes die. That's the point of the game. It's a story generator. Even still, it may have been possible to lightly wound the boomrat to slow it down then bait it away.

Don't play on the default difficulty if you are. In fact, counter to what you might expect, the random difficulty is the most compelling and the easiest to manage.

But my solar panel wasn't even near a wooden wall. I think the damn fire propagated through the power conduits. 2 of my 3 peeps were incapacitated from burning, and the remaining one couldn't serve as doctor :O

I love the damn game, but I'm close to calling it quits. Gonna try again later.

It doesn't sound like you're starting at a reasonable challenge level? there's also a more casual one you can start with to get your bearings and figure out what you should focus on first.

Yeah I picked Cassandra and Rough since I always start these types of games on the "normal" difficulty. Probably gonna try the lower difficulties.

Granted I've only had like 5 runs so far, got the game a couple of days ago.

And I love Roguelikes/lites, I've beaten a bunch, but this one got me struggling.

Also contrary to what the game tells you phoebe chillax is actually a bipolar lunatic, sometimes she sends you a self-tamed herd of yorkshires and the next thing that happens is that an endless wave of manhunting beavers are ravaging the corpses of your dead colonists...

Edit: nevermind you did cassandra, yeah she's just an overall bitch it seems, would recommend lowering the difficulty if oyu're having too many issues until you learn some of the important game mechanics first hand.

My favorite events are the ones that require you to stay indoors or bad things happen. If this happens early enough I guess you just have to starve.

I've survived these sort of events early on but its rough.

Yeah, don't do rough for the time being. And I recommend playing on Randy, but that's pretty subjective.

also speaking of other kind of crazy events, i think the most dangerous crazy situation i had was when a herd of boomalos got self tamed, they were like 10 or 15 of the little shits.

While milking boomalos for fuel was nice, the explosion hazard and consequent chain reaction wasn't.

As long as you don't pick the Randy Random storyteller or a particularly brutal difficulty/starting location, there's going to be enough time to stockpile food for a disaster.

Good news.

I managed to reach Day 20 something. Now my only builder got Malaria and has been sleeping/getting treated for like 3 days straight. Can't build anything, but I made my base inside some mountain terrain and there's a megaspider nest with some scalopods or something? That cover one of the only short entrances to my base.

Tons of raiders have just died to them. I can't pick up what they dropped cause I can't possibly kill the megaspider, but I'm relatively safe for now. It's like having the bugs from Starship Troopers as pets lmfao.

I think I'll eventually lose to some heat wave or something. But at least there's progress.

I remember a while back, the dev got mad or something that people were trivializing the game by carving their bases into the sides of mountains so he added events that spawned monsters right inside of your base.
