There's so much. I don't see how people can earnestly believe in the Bible, but say that psychic abilities/magic is not real, cryptids/aliens definitely don't exist, etc.

It's weird. I'm not saying anything is or isn't real, but I don't know how you can pick and choose stories like that. Fairy tale level shit existed two thousand years ago but now suddenly everything is cut and dried?

On the first day God created Earth, he added light and separated light from darkness to create day and night.
On the fourth day, he created all the stars in the sky (and all other planets?), the sun and the moon.

How did we have light without the sun and why did he add the sun if it was not needed?

Just because parts of it got outside sources doesnt mean that everything in the Bible is supported.
Like the Book of Exodus that says that the Israelites were slaves in Egypt. The Egyptians loved to take notes of everything, and even when they have tried to censor stuff it was still recorded, and yet it doesnt mention those slaves.
And when they escaped, where did they escape?
They escaped from Egypt to... Egypt! Yes, Gods promised land was just another part of Egypt back then.

That said, the plagues of Egypt can be explained by the aftermatch of an volcano eruption, so they most likely took an old story and added God to it.
Like the Flood myth that many old religions and myths share.

Or the Roman Pilate that is known for his brutality in every recording of him, except for the Bible where he is almost turned to a good guy that just want to help Jesus. He could kill every man, woman and child in a village just because of a rumor of somebody that could cause trouble lived there, but in the Bible he is just letting a terrorist go instead of Jesus, and it exist no records that the governor even let a person free at the Passover Festival. And he would never have let Jesus walk away, because anybody claiming the throne would be a threat and enemy to the Roman state.
The 4 Gospels are clearly written in such a way to take away the blame of Jesus death from the Romans and put it on the Jews, to make it easier to convert Romans into Christianity. The Romans wouldnt have accepted Christianity as a religion if they were painted as the bad guys that killed their Lord the savior.

The problem there is that you're claiming that faith is a kind of reasoning. It's not. It's the absence of reasoning.

And yes, if that was all we had to go on we probably would be extinct. But we probably would be if we were purely logical too.

I strongly doubt this.

We don't give out medical licenses based on faith.

Churches rob poor people blind of their pennies based on faith.

I'd disagree that self-preservation is entirely logical.

I'm not saying that logic is a bad thing. It's great. However, if we were purely logical it would actually impede our decision making ability. You can't always see a logical conclusion. Sometimes there's no reason to choose one of two options over another. But most importantly, almost all of our relationships with other people are based, to some extent, on faith. Our ability to form families, friendships and societies has been instrumental in our survival as a species.

If you take Genesis literally it falls apart quickly. God, who is all knowing, creates Lucifer, whom he believes to be perfect, and we are told specifically that angels do not have free will. Yet somehow Lucifer betrays him. He then, despite being all powerful, allows Lucifer to continue existing and trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, which he punishes all of humanity for until his son has to die to undo it. The whole thing is just a series of head scratchers.
