This must be a fairly new thing, and I also hear a lot of people straight up refusing this.

Only happened once to me so far and tbh it was pretty annoying to find the reciept since I usually throw it in one of the bags. But also what if I had a personal hygiene product I didn't just want out and in the open for passerby's to see?

Yea. they don't really check the receipt. They just mark it so you don't come back in with it and try to steal the same item. That said i haven't been to a Wal Mart in months and last time i remember they didn't really ask. I just volunteered it since it was in my hand. Had there been a line i would have just walked out.

Most of the time they don't even have to ask. I have my receipt in my hand, walk up and hand it to them. Most of the time they say they don't need to see it and I go on.

People will bitch about anything.

I use Walmart Pay. I have my phone out anyway. It's not a big deal for them to scan a barcode.

Depends.

If they're asking everybody, no problem.

But if 3 white people walk by first and nothing then they ask for my receipt, I just walk past.

The greeters used to demand to see the receipt, but now they dont seem to give a shit.

I never had a problem showing it. Now its just a habit to raise my hand with the receipt and they only go k and turn away.

The only greeters who have asked me this are senior citizens. So yeah, I just show them the receipt, because I'd feel guilty hand-waving them.

That having been said, I completely understand why others would refuse to do so on principle. I also don't think greeters should have to ask in the first place. Wal-Mart has a loss protection department for a reason; they shouldn't have to rope Gertrude from the old folks' home into this shit.

I lol'd because the old lady at the one I go to definitely looks like a Gertrude. They recently put a uniformed security guard next to her and this dude is fucking jacked. I doubt anyone is going to refuse if she asks now

The other day the greeter was checking receipts and there were like 6 people in line waiting to show him their receipts, like they thought it was a requirement

I walked right on by them with my unbagged items

Same. They ALWAYS ask me. Seemed standard.

A few months back. I saw a lady with jeans and some other stuff in hand walk to an empty cash register and grab a nag and stuff it in and walk off.

I thought "ooh, she's going to get busted", nope. So when I walked up and they asked for my receipt, I gave it to them and saw the lady sitting on a bench near the exit (possibly waiting for their ride?) and I asked; "so, did you check her receipt the same way you're checking mine?" And they said "no" and I said, "funny, because I just saw her walk up with stuff in hand, put it in an empty plastic bag and walk off without paying"

They looked mad but did nothing. But anyone that is a minority is way more likely to be the individual that needs their receipts checked, right?

I've heard that wal mart lets perpetual shoplifters do it up to a certain dollar amount so they can press heavy charges. I dunno how valid this claim is though.

It's what I do at my job, so I let them when I go to other places.

Honestly, I don't get why people get in such a pissy mood when you ask. It takes 2 seconds and we only check because our bosses tell us to.

It wasnt a big deal. I didnt mind.
