Just finished Witcher 3 like last week and all its DLC

just did my first side quest on horizon zero Dawn and ITS LITERALLY tracking someone the same way you track someone with the Witcher sense

tbese tracking missions need to go. Im not playing Arkham asylum.

i loved Witcher 3 but the constant tracking got old fast.

theres only one game that did it right and that was LA Noire.

Yeah tracking missions have replaced tailing missions as the 'this is the boring open world content'

Tracking in Witcher 3 was really cool at first then there was that side quest where you had to find the werewolf and that shit killed the tracking shit for me for the rest of the game. Worse than the goat.

I know a lot of people like it, but I wasn't a fan of Horizon: Zero Dawn.

I thought that Aloy was a decent lead, but besides that, I wasn't really feeling the story or most of the other characters.

I wonder if graphics/physics will be good enough next gen to make a proper tracking gameplay mechanic feasible.

Then again even if they were it would still be pretty boring.

characters suck and are basically robots.
Especially rost. Hes pretty annoying. I feel like the game takes itself too seriously.

does it pick up anytime soon or is it basically the same thing throughout?

I played on easy and skipped most of the side quests. I found the main story, or at least one side of it, very engaging.

Oh man yeah most of the characters were kind of meh outside of Aloy (with a couple of exceptions) but I found the story and the way it was told intensely interesting. Did you end up finishing the game?

The story gets WAY better after a couple of hours. I found the opening very dull as well.

Opening is for sure dull. Game is amazing once you can leave the starting area and you really start learning the combat system and all its various nuances. It really was something else in that game going from feeling underpowered as hell to farming the thunderjaws easily. One of the best exclusives on the PS4, IMO. Its also the first game in a long time where I really felt like the DLC was completely worth it.

What's funny is you mention you went from Witcher 3 and finishing that to this whereas I was the opposite and I've never finished W3. Got bored to tears both times I tried in Novigrad. Its a great game...just way too fucking long for me. v_v

I heard the game picks up after the starting area but I didnt get that far. May come back to it in the future but I felt like I had to force myself to play the game. It feels very generic and I think I already know how the story unfolds which is disappointing if true since I guessed it too easily.

I think Im probably just getting sick of sandbox open world games.

everything is so spread out, its a pain sprinting to the next quest marker

my most played games of last year were Sekiro and Resident Evil 2. Neither were open world.

developers need to go back to the condensed gameplay format

The main story, environments and worldbuilding (especially later on) are the best parts of the game. Those, and Ashley Burch's performance work. The other characters in the story I agree aren't very interesting for the most part.

The gameplay is fine IMO.

Tracking isn't the absolute worst, but I did get to th point where I'd skip a mission if I knew it'd be that. Lots of tracking missions

Horizon was game of the year back then and the obvious eventual sequel is a day one buy.

But the opening is trash.

Well I played resident evil remake before horizon

so it gave me a nice enclosed claustrophobic feeling lol

Played and enjoyed both but I like Witcher 3 more. I found Horizon a bit on the easy side, even on high difficulties.

Tracking/detective segments were fairly enjoyable in W3 mainly because it usually built suspense for introducing a new monster and gave you clues on beating them along the way. But as a whole these sections are only fun on paper.

This was my thought on the topic as well because it also happens to me. Like I tried to go from AC Odyssey to RDR2 and I just couldn't do it until I played another game first.

just finished the proving part.

one thing I like about this game though is how fast and easy it is to get upgrades. Lots of games make you wait hours until you get anything decent

Yeah what I really appreciated is that the good shit you can get very early in the skill trees.
