Why are there no rules?

At Revolution for example, Hangman Page put what's his name through a table which the ref saw, and that was apparently just fine.

This happens a lot in AEW, where a ref sees someone break the supposed rules in a pretty serious way and they are like, "Mmmkay, cool"

Call me what you want about this sticking point, but it happens often enough that it bugs me.

I have noticed that as well. They have no DQ rules in place.

What a weird complaint. In October everyone had a meltdown about this during hell in the cell and now the opposite is bad

i like it, honestly. the refs should give the champs some leeway, because being super strict about the rules only hurts the challengers. and who wants to see a 35 minute PPV match end in a dq?

Hell In A Cell has always been no DQ. That is the whole premise. Mick Foley almost died and the match kept going.

So... what the hell are you talking about?

You absolutely have no idea why people were complaining

People are mad that a match that has No DQ as a stipulation ends in a DQ.

People are mad that a match with DQ in the rules does not have a DQ when rules are broken.

In both cases, people (me) are annoyed that rules are basically thrown out the window in terms of the match structure.

How can u not see the difference between a cage match ending in a dq while normal matches are seemigly no dq?

Last night was my first aew show in a long time and i thought there was no dq rules till the ME where they emphasized the ref giving them leeway

Who set up that table in the example you mentioned? Or was it just a random table that was already at ringside? I can't remember. I've seen times where someone tries to set up a table and the ref tries to tell them not to, but then they later get put through the table they themselves set up and the other person doesn't get DQ's because they didn't set it up. It seems to be considered "using your environment around you" rather than "actively using a DQ-worthy weapon" except if it's a table that you set up yourself for that specific purpose.

There have only been a few points where something was so blatant that I was wondering why a DQ wasn't called (like Moxley attacking Omega and them fighting to the back) but most of the time I just chalk it up to refs being lenient and wanting to see a clean result as much as the fans do.

iirc, it was the timekeeper's table

So that's not considered a wrestler "using a foreign object" for a DQ, just part of the ringside area that happens to be there. Put someone through the announcer's/timekeeper's table? Fine. Set up your own table and put someone through it? DQ. Throw someone into the steel ring steps? Fine. Pick up the steel ring steps and whack someone in the head with them? DQ. Turnbuckle pad "falls off" (AKA is removed without the ref seeing it) and someone gets thrown into it? Fine. Ref sees you take off the pad and then throw someone into it? DQ. Makes perfect sense to me.

I suppose it can be the narrative for AEW.

I'm used to WWE. If you put someone through the announcers table that is a DQ.

I'm pretty sure I've seen someone go through the announce table without a DQ occurring in WWE too. In fact, I think Shane McMahon did it to someone in one of his matches within the past couple of years. And I've definitely seen people thrown into the steel steps without a DQ being called as well.

I agree, referee discretion is a smart idea.

I guess it depends on how blatant it is (I haven't seen the match), but referees have always been a little biased towards the faces. It is weird however that when AEW was first starting Tony Khan was saying it was going to be more sports based with rules being enforced and such like how Mid South Wrestling was. It's where the win/loss records come from.
