I dunno why I thought that. I guess cause the last time I saw the movie I was a kid and over the years my brain filled it in with other stuff

Because I watched it earlier

And I was surprised at how it ended.

Like oh they just wandered into the jungle with no food or supplies, and Cortez is still roaming around the area and will be starting his genocide of the native peoples soon after the credits roll.

Cortez never finds El Dorado. Kahn wants to lead him there, but the path is collapsed, so Cortez just takes him as a slave or something.
