Video Game Remakes Yes or No??

Just want to know everybody's opinion on remakes.

Yesterday I was reading a yahoo article about the remake of Final fantasy 7. It made me think about all the recent remakes of classic games...
I notice when video games are remade there seems to be a different reception in comparison to when classic movies are remade. Personally after the Remake of Resident evil 1, I couldn't wait til they made a Re2 remake.
I think most gaming fans embrace remakes because we understand there are or were technological limitations in the past. I think it's cool to see a developers true ambitions for a past title finally be able to be reached.
I think with movies it's a bit different because you are talking about new and different actors (people) playing roles that another actor may have made a classic (If that makes sense)...

I never been a huge RPG or Final fantasy fan, but I might check out this remake.

Yeah I kinda agree. However, I do hope they remake Resident Evil code veronica eventually. I hope somebody remakes project Winback...It came out on N64 and eventually ps2. But that game was so underappreciated and ahead of its time.

Agreed. That gen is where most modern gaming conventions started taking hold. Before that it was the wild fucking west in regard to camera placement, controls, movement and everything else. There's no point in remaking games that play just like modern games just so you can throw a fresh coat of paint on it.

I'm playing RE2make right now and it is amazing. The Gothic remake also looks really cool. I know a lot of people are upset it doesn't look like Gothic but PB has been making games that look Gothic for 20 years. I'm glad they're trying something new, especially since anyone can boot up the original Gothic no problem.

More remakes please
I actually didnt like the direction that they went in for REmake2 but it objectively wasnt a bad game. I'd like to see more attempts.

They have never been bad. Ive never seen a vote with your wallet situation with gaming more than this and apparently enough people like them considering they keep doing it.

A lot of games from the 8-bit to 32-bit generation were highly experimental. Much like early movies they were limited by technology and a lot of conventions and standards hadn't been established yet. So I think many of those games can benefit from a remake.

You have to keep in mind film as a medium is about twice as old as video gaming. The first movie was Roundhay Garden Scene, made in 1888. The first video game was an early predecessor to Pong, made in 1958.

So it makes sense for the acceptable timeframe for a video game remake to be smaller than for a movie. If I were to remake a 90's game today, it would be like remaking a 60's movie.

Time devs spend rehashing old games is time that could be better spent on something new.
