Fun Fact: There is no singular gender-neutral word for cattle in the English language.

Cattle = Plural
Bovine = Includes buffaloes and bison
Cow = Female that has given birth to a calf
Heifer = Female that hasn't yet given birth
Calf = Young bovine
Bull = Intact Male
Steer = Castrated Male
Bullock = Older steer
Maverick = Unbranded bovine
Ox = A bovine used for work
Kine = Plural, archaic

True. And when we speak of numbers we often say something like we have 450 head of cattle. That leaves out the headless cows though.
