Obviously idolizing them is unhealthy, but ignoring them in their personal lives is problematic too. Supporting domestic abusers like Chris Brown or child rapists like Michael Jackson reinforces the idea that it's okay to do these things if you're important enough to a section of the economy.

But on the other hand, extremely talented people get overlooked because we want attractive people to show in music videos and on album covers. Though a good degree of the music business's obsession with youth and beauty may be due to predatory practices.

Is there a middle ground?
