Bought both sets for my Xbox One and Switch and they're very good ports. Doom 3 is basically just BFG Edition with a resolution bump, which is good

Theres pretty much no reason to get the original DOOM 3 unless you want it to feel more like a survival horror and less like DOOM. The original had much less ammo and the med stations wouldnt always be full

if you're playing on console you're stuck with BFG version

if you have the choice between the two on pc though I would say go with the original. it has slower gameplay and a spookier atmosphere. bfg edition is brighter and has controller support and removes the flashlight mechanic from the original, resulting in faster gameplay. BFG edition also includes doom 1 and 2 (on steam) as well as the Resurrection of Evil expansion and the new Lost Mission expansion which is exclusive to the BFG edition. it's pretty short (only 8 levels and 2-3 hours) but it's pretty fun

I distinctively remember hoarding machine gun and chaingun ammo because they were so limited lol, had to use the shotgun for like half of the entire game

The 2019 port also has toggled sprint (which will make the hell levels way less painful) and the controls are mapped to more appropriately fit a controller

I tended to use specific weapons for specific enemies (grenades for MG for rangedsoldier goons, chaingun for cacodemons or shotgun when theyre close, mg/chain/plasma for lost souls and those creepy baby thigns) so I don't think I ran low a lot except for right after you get the weapons (especially if you found one early). Shotgun is best for tons of situations, aswell as the plasma rifle, they tossed ammo for that at you like beautiful crystal blue candy

doom 3 has some of the worst guns in an fps outside of daikatana, and really annoying enemy patterns based more around sneaking up or teleporting in behind you than being fun to fight
