I would say the vast vast majority of public bathrooms I have used having lived in Europe for 28 years have been free

Same here. Though I have noticed an increase like in train stations which is understandable considering the bums and junkies. I've found used needles in station bathrooms as a teen and I haven't seen any since they switched to paying.

It absolutely get hot enough in the summer in England to want a/c and screens on the windows. I lived next to a pig farm when I was stationed over there and opening the windows wasn't an option because the amount of flies that would flood my house was ridiculous.
Warren Ellis (comic writer, novelist, and writer of the Netflix Castlevania series) lives in Southend-On-Sea, and he said a few years back, it got so hot in his house one summer that the butter in his fridge melted.

Dunno, whatever bit of decency they have left? The local park across my house has pay toilets and it's not like the park is covered in shit and piss. And again, not every toilet is a pay toilet, it's mostly parks and train stations. Some train stations circumvent this by simply having you ask for a key which you return when you've finished your business.

People faced with debilitating debt because of poor health.

Children getting shot in classrooms on a regular basis.

But perhaps most unforgivable, no concept of proper cheese.

Disdain?
I live in a country where social security makes sure you at least get by. No job or unemployment wages? You get 900 each month as a single resident without kids. Homeless? Ask for wellfare, get the 900 minimum monthly, your security deposit and first month payed and 2000 "installation bonus" to buy furniture, kitchen utensils and electronics. Social housing is calculated on your income and some even pay only 200 a month for a newly build 3 bedroom apartment.
We don't have homeless sleeping in tents or boxes in packs like San Francisco either. Las Vegas literally has people living underground and drowning like rats. Not here, plenty of shelters and wellfare housing opportunities. They can eat 3 meals a day for a grand total of 3. The homeless here at least have a shot at getting their life back.

-no screens in windows

Easily obtainable if desired. Not even expensive...

-no air conditioning

It'd be wasteful to have them as they are only necessary 2-3 weeks a year if even.

-bathrooms cost money to use

This is only true for about 30% of the bathrooms, but to be honest, I'm okay paying the equivalent of 50 cents if it means the bathroom is perfectly clean (which it is). The money you pay goes towards maintenance and cleanliness. Worth the money imo.

-water costs money in restaurants, no refills, no ice

Out of 10 restaurants 9 of them will have free water. The one restaurant where they charge you, they'll charge around $2 for a glass, but these restaurants are usually on the expensive side.

-no clothes dryers

Not really true. Every place I've lived has had dryers. Pretty much everywhere in Europe I've visited has dryers. I know people who choose not to have dryers to save energy and because dryers disintegrate fabric compared to if you hang the clothes to dry. Check the filter after using the dryer to see how much of the fabric gets removed after a load. Do this repeatedly and your t-shirts will get holes way faster.

-no handicapped accessibility

Completely untrue. Maybe in poorer places like in Eastern Europe, but not for any of the western European countries I've visited

-gas, drivers licenses are too expensive for the average person to drive

People do own less cars in Europe, this is true. But getting a drivers license is often considered unnecessary if you live in the cities. Public transportation ranges from acceptable to really good (luckily here in Switzerland it's incredible). Honestly, if you compare the physical size of the entire European continent to the United States, you might understand why we don't all own cars. Things are closer together here, period.

-taxes for radios and tvs

This is a heavily debated one here in Switzerland. In fact there was a bill that was voted on roughly 2 years ago whether to stop the publicly funded radio/tv. It was smashed by the people since private radio/tv are known to have their own agenda and personal interests. So TV here is free of political bias, thank fuck for that. It's honestly not that expensive, and considering we pay only about 15% of our annual salary for taxes which is very low, I'm okay paying a few hundred for TV free from political bias.

-everything in constant disrepair

Well, you can't generalize for this one. Europe is an entire continent. Again, less fortunate countries will be worse in this regard. But when I travel to the US which I do quite a lot, I believe it's worse on average than Europe. US infrastructure is definitely not its strong point. If anything, I find there's too many construction sites here in Switzerland. Shit is always being taken care of or improved, it's almost annoying, however the end result is obviously nice even if it does seem to take a while for construction to move forward.

-toilets dont use suction

The only time I've ever experienced toilets not using suction in Europe was in Greece and in Croatia. No where in western/northern Europe was this ever an issue.

-can be jailed for saying something offensive

This statement is really vague. In fact I'm pretty sure you can get in trouble anywhere for saying offensive shit, even in the US...

I've lived in Europe pretty much all my life. Moved to Switzerland from Texas when I was 5, lived here for the past 25 years. I've spent time in almost every European country, but predominantly in western Europe.

Not true, tap water is usually free and you do get ice. No free refills is true though.

No this is wrong at least for the UK in regards to refills. In the UK in a lot of restaurants you can pay once for a glass of fizzy drink and then you can refill as much as you like for no extra cost/free.

No one should be in prison or under threat of violence for having an opinion or having an idea. No matter what that idea or opinion is, even if it is something you view as horrific it is still theirs to hold in their mind.

Free speech + freedom of ideas is the cornerstone of liberty and there is a reason it is treasured by Americans more than we treasure beer.

It's unsettling to see people who don't agree/understand that. It means you're handing the keys of your + your childrens potential safety and freedom over to whatever the government at the time decides is indecent. People have literally died to oppose that.

Ireland

-no screens in windows
No need for them but can be easily bought.

-no air conditioning
Hotels would have it but no need for it in homes.

-bathrooms cost money to use
Public bathrooms in parks and train stations might charge.

-water costs money in restaurants, no refills, no ice
Water is free in restaurants, ask for a jug of water with ice and refills are free.

-no clothes dryers
Most homes would have one but just as easy to hang clothes outside.

-no handicapped accessibility
Odd to assume that but yes we have.

-gas, drivers licenses are too expensive for the average person to drive
Small fee when applying for licence and petrol isn't that expensive yet.

-taxes for radios and tvs
You are meant to pay for a licence but can still access if you don't bother.

-everything in constant disrepair
Simply not true

-toilets dont use suction
If you mean same as airplane toilets then no.

-can be jailed for saying something offensive
You can if you get aggressive and give a guard (police officer) abuse but no risk of getting shot.

Less Americans in Ireland wouldn't be a bad thing, gets annoying dealing with Americans claiming to be Irish coming over expecting nothing but drinking and fighting from the people of Ireland.

Don't know about the UK, but here if you specifically say "I want tap" they're obligated to give it to you for free.
