This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

So there are obvious comparisons you can make with Jenova to the likes of Sin and Lavos, who had some strength in the villains contest despite being silent antagonists who barely qualify as characters. Clearly that has to do with being in very strong games. I think Jenova has an advantage over them design-wise, especially "literally just a fin" Sin. Even though I think people are less likely now to vote for a not-a-character character, I think Jenova can pull High Fodder. Mostly because its FFVII.

Rattata I also say is High Fodder. Everyone has used a Rattata in the games and even though the rat is weak and doesn't have an interesting design, it has some very popular memes associated with it. F.E.A.R. and Top Percentage Rattata will definitely sway some votes in the rat's favor.

For Jon I will say Low Fodder. I'm not sure how well-liked he is, but from what I can find he played a large role in the controversial last season of GoT and doesn't have the plus of being a hot girl or a memetic badass.

Tina I will Re-rank at Low Fodder. I don't think she benefits as much from the TJF as other DoA girls based on her design, and I don't think many remember her compared to the likes of Kasumi and Ayane. Not to mention how niche the series is nowadays.

Some parts of Gfaqs do remember Tina for beating Gordon back in that first contest in 2002, but that wasn't much of a surprise looking back. Dead or Alive was legitimately a more popular series than Half-Life back then, with Gordon only having the first HL game to draw from.

Jenova (Final Fantasy VII) - Mid fodder

Jenova just never really says or does anything as itself anyways and I'm skeptical people will care. Remake could make quite a bit of difference for them depending on how they're handled.

Rattata (Pokemon) - High fodder

top percentage of fodder?

Jon Snow (Game of Thrones) - Mid fodder

People were lukewarm on the last season but Jon didn't seem to be the thing people were most angry about.
