Fire Emblem (GBA) made me not want to play video games for about 3 months, so I dropped it.

I just beat Flicky (Gen -- part of Sega Genesis Collection (PSP)) -- 4/10 Took me about 4 hrs to beat using save states.

I highly doubt I would be able to beat this without save states. I got to the 10th stage without using them, and was going to drop it, then looked up how many stages it has, and when I saw it was only 48, I decided to use the save states the Collection allows to make it through it. There are only a handful of stages that I would consider to be extremely hard. Since you can only get up to 8 lives, those stages would use up whatever I had left extremely quickly.

The huge issues I had with

I'm pretty sure Millipede has no ending, so I'll either try to max out the score (as you can fairly easily do on a good number of Atari 2600 games) or go for a challenging, but attainable, target score.

I think Star Raiders actually has an end goal.

I've never heard of The Diary of a Nobody.

Belle's Quest is supposed to be awful, but I was intrigued by what the store clerk said her experience with it was.

I was kinda thinking I haven't seen one of these topics for a long time.

what didn't you like about Fire Emblem? I actually am thinking of starting a complete playthrough of the fire emblem series in order (even including the japanese only games. the game you played is known in Japan as Fire Emblem 7 actually. we missed a bunch of games in the series)

I've played like 2 games in the series but never finished any before

First and foremost, I really don't like the permadeath. With how you get new troops and the relatively low number that you pick up, I really don't want to get 30 hrs in and run out of troops, possibly making it virtually impossible to win and needing to restart.

The CPU not being affected by fog of war really lowered my opinion of it.

The Arena -- they apparently don't know the basics of betting on events.

Having weapon durability with as little ability to acquire funds to buy replacements, also tied into the Arena.

Reading a novel between every battle.

The last straw was a battle where it was down to just the enemy's leader, and after about 8 rounds of missing every ranged attack but one (so, I went about 1-for 20, and he wasn't in woods or a fort), I decided to attack with a promoted and leveled up cavalier with full HP, only to have him get a critical hit and one hit kill my cavalier.

I found Shadow Dragon to be much easier.
