I'm sure those conservatives in California and liberals in Texas are really happy their vote doesn't matter so a handful of small states can be the only ones that matter every election.

You're right. All these solid blue and red states might turn purple once or twice a century.

At least every American doesn't have a vote that counts equal to everyone else's. It would be bad for the Midwest hivemind if the California and New York hiveminds voted.

Perfection doesn't exist, so who gives a fuck? If the majority votes in a failure, so be it. It's not like every other elected position would magically disappear if we voted on the President with democracy. There'd be plenty of other positions you could elect people to between Presidential terms. Besides, there are systems like ranked-choice voting that could make the eventual winner a bit more palatable to the masses

Because getting to as close to perfection is best... They use the language very intentionally and is why they don't flat out say 'perfect'.

I do like the rank based voting stuff. Seems smart

It's definitely a much better idea than the popular vote. If the popular vote was the system than only coastal states would even matter in a presidential election. You can not like it all you want but, it's not going to change TC.

We are called the United States of America. The answer to TC's question is in our country's name. Each state has their own interests and responsibilities for choosing who they see fit to run the country.

Meanwhile, the smaller, redder states have a disproportionately larger amount of the voting power.

It is terrible what is happening over there. The middle class are the ones getting screwed big time. Regulations, permits, etc. aren't enforced for illegals/homeless selling food or flowers and one street over the cops are writing tickets to soccer moms driving 8 miles over the speed limit. The laws only apply to people who have a check book and can pay up for "fines". The rest is ignored. And of course if you're super rich it doesn't matter if you get a small fine or violation.

How does this help the conversation in any way? You sound like you not only have nothing to add, but don't even understand what's being discussed. Not saying that's true, just what I gather from your statement.

It exists because the people in a position to change it say it should. That's the reason, no more no less.

You can be on one side or the other, but the people that control things only care about staying there. They want their power.

Until that changes, they have no incentive to help

Note that before he won, Trump was completely in favor of removing the Electoral College. Turns out, the EC is the only reason he won.
