It basically convinced me to just go full elementalist eventually. Since its so useful in and out of combat and I realized I didnt want to limit myself to just 2 schools of magic.

Im playing an Elf that started with Pyrokinetic and Geomancer spells. Me and my friend that are playing the main campaign then killed these telepathic gators (wtf) and then I got a ring that let me use Teleport... you get so many good items using this spell because you can now reach inaccessible areas. It basically bankrolled our spell purchases in Fort Joy because we were getting our asses kicked on Tactician mode (he likes to play the hardest mode... kinda annoying but eventually we power through encounters, usually with at least 1 of my 2 squishy units dead). I plan to get Pyrokinetic, Geomancer, Hydrosophist, and Aerothurge skills, maybe plopping more points in one than the others (since I do want powerful spells). Eventually Ill put points into Polymorph to get more stat boosts, because I know I will have to boost Memory more than the average character does.

My friend is playing a Lizard. Started with Cleric stuff and is speccing into Summoner (my god does having extra units on your side make things easier) and maybe Aerothurge for combo potential and more teleport whackiness.

I picked up Sebille. Her damage is crazy. We kinda just buff her and let her go to town; taking out an enemy early is indispensable. Dont really know what to get on her besides Scoundrel. I have one point in Warfare to use that line knockdown skill (really useful to get more backstabs off since they cant turn around on the turn they spend getting up).

My friend recruited The Red Prince. Not sure what hes doing with him but hes an effective tank. Maybe going for points in Necromancy for sustain and because at least one of their abilities requires a melee attack.

Indeed. Teleport's synergy with height advantage is massive; I'm free to remove units out of some fights completely, especially if they're beasts who can't operate a ladder. Or to combine friends together and then AoE them all.

And, yeah, most builds are best focusing on two schools for most of their skills. Maybe dabbling 1 or 2 points in a side school for a utility spell. Pyro/Hydro seems strange but I'm guessing you plan on sticking to the magic armor/healing aspects of Hydrop and the damage output on Pyro.

A fully optimized party will focus on one damage type (magical or physical) to shatter that one armor and then apply CC. Buuuut I'm in Act 4 with a split party and it's been pretty fun on Classic so don't worry about it too much; your mages can focus on target A and your fighters can focus on target B. Summoner can toggle between the two types of damage pending floor effects; blood and neutral is physical.

Sebille can snag points in DW.

Red Prince probably goes heavier into warfare and 1H. Tanks aren't really a thing in this game; the AI will often target squishies if they're within range. Meleebros are great and shield throw is amazing, but you'll want to swing towards damage and debuffs instead of just stacking armor and evasive aura because the AI will see what's happening and just go somewhere else. Opportunity is good.

Note that units with a bit of magic and a bit of physical skills can make use of the Crafted Skills.

They are both great games but...no.

Oh yes. D:OS2 has to be the most overrated RPG I've played in quite some time. A 6/10 at best.

Yeah, teleporting is OP. A lot of my early battles went like this:

1) without being spotted, make it rain all over
2) box everyone into an area by using telekinesis/teleportation on movable obstacles
2) go to the contiguous rain puddle's farthest extremity
3) use contaminate to turn all the rain into virulent poison
4) wait for any enemies to die slowly and impotently
5) start battle
6) use Worm Tremor -- usually from high and far away -- to prevent them from leaving the poison/oil/etc.
7) rain arrows and magical death upon enemies
8) if anyone gets close, teleport them back down into the poison and resume movelocking them with W.T.

It gets even funnier late in the game when you can swap out Rain/Contaminate combos for deathfog barrels you stole, then teleport living enemies inside for instakills. Granted, it doesn't work that well in some of the final battles, but oh well. Too bad 90% of the enemies can Teleport, Shade Shift, do that other swapping move, or use Phoenix Dive/Tactical Retreat/etc.

Lol never thought of that. Can you access your inventory during combat? My friend is hoarding a ton of junk in his bag so that could be fun

Some of the options are greyed out, iirc.

It's theoretically possible to just load up a chest with 1000+ lbs and then teleport said box on top of someone and kill them outright, but the logistics of moving around said Chest of Death Dropping are annoying so I can't be assed.

You leave a teleport stone next to it, jump through, grab it, jump back, throw it.

Pretty much. Invest heavily in telekinesis and wits as well. Ideal skills are executioner and escape artist. Teleport, murder, flee, repeat.

Terrain Swap works with lava, huh? I always kinda wanted to test some stuff with it, but never bothered. I know that one lizard in Chapter 2 (?) can make lava spells, but I never had the opportunity to do that when I went through. Not sure if that's even a real spell you can get. I did, however, try killing Alice Aliceon by teleporting her into lava once...but it didn't work. =(

I played as a wuss that whole chapter, poisoning just about every conceivable enemy from afar, so I get how you feel. If I didn't raise Fane as a sneak thief, reaching the next chapter would've been difficult, haha.

It would be nice if we could take these source collars off soon...

Also can you switch weapons in combat? I might give Sebille a bow for when she cant get in without dying. Having someone with first aid is also tempting because it cancels out knocked down

I might revisit that game. Pretty sure I started with a bad party build and just couldn't progress any further in any fun kind of way.

So to me, teleportation is less OP, and more "the only thing that actually consistently helps in battle".

Heh, yeah. The game gives you amulets before the collars can be taken off. It's such a tease.

And indeed. Costs 1 AP, iirc. Dunno if equipping both a MH and OH weapon is considered as 1 or 2 actions though. Taking off your shield/offhand costs 0 AP though, and an open offhand grants the ability "Sucker Punch" which is a melee range knockdown ability.

Some people have posted about success with combo bow/spear builds as both scale with finesse and it takes 1 AP to toggle between.

Restart only if you've forgotten storyline and stuff. Definitive edition comes with the "Larian Gift pack" which has a handful of QoL boons and some others that kinda break the game you can toggle on if you like. Personally I'm a huge fan of shared bartering and rez on rest.

One of which is the "respec mirror in Fort Joy", which lets you rearrange all your points as you see fit; will fix any 'broken' build :p. If you really wanna break the game, then you can also give all your units max points in Thievery, rob all the people with everyone (unit A talks, units B, C, D sneak and pickpocket all their cash then flee the scene before you're approached), and then respec back to standard civil talents. Money's tight early on, especially as you're trying to gather up all the skills.

Do those have to be enabled at start? Im not sure if my friend would have toggled those on our save file.

Also the Huntsman thing makes more sense to me since Sebille usually goes for the archers on high ground... so she can make it her high ground after.

the start of chapter two, I think, you're given access to a mirror that allows you to respec your characters, and even change their appearance, iirc.
