I really don't understand the whole "any amount of socialism is the same as a communist dictatorship" attitude that's so common among conservatives. Is it really that difficult to comprehend any sort of middle ground between anarchocapitalism and North Korea?

So now the government needs to take even more to cover this. They'll start taking more. Not just more money but more control. Because now that larger numbers rely more heavily on the government they will support that taking of more because it's not their stuff being taken. It belongs to someone else. But in order to get more the government will convince them to give up more freedom. "These rights must be given up so we can take what we need to give to you" and the masses will abide and give up those rights and freedoms for more time at the teat.

Conservatives: "helping people is bad"
Liberals: "rich people need to be less rich"
Rich people: "poor people need to work harder without pay raises"
Poor people: "why is the government taking so much of my money but barely does anything useful with it"
Crazy people: "the government will take total control if we help people"
Reasonable people: "we should be all be helping each other to survive without anyone having nothing or everything"

No I do not think there is a slippery slope between common sense and full on Stalin or Mao.

The platform of Bernie is not to put people on the government dime, but to get them jobs and have those jobs pay them a reasonable amount.

Also it's the republican party platform to combat rights in the name of "freedom" not the democrats. Bernie is actually working for the expansion of rights.

This is why there's a vote every 4 years. You can't make anarchocapitalism in to communism over a short timescale, so the people vote after each phase and decide if they want to go further.
