Trying to get a good list going of everything I've missed over the last few years. Haven't paid attention to fan translation stuff in a good half decade or more.

Already aware of all the Trails.

Also if the only translated release was on a handheld/mobile....I am including that in this request as well.

The SNES FE games did get better translations in the last half-decade, so while them being translated isn't new, them having good translations is.

I wouldn't really call Trials a prequel to Secret of Mana, if I recall correctly Heroes states that there's a branch of alternative universes split from Anise or something like that. So like the only truly connected games are Dawn>Children>Heroes>Trials and the rest are their own universes.

Live a Live, Bahamut Lagoon and Treasure of Rudras are more great Square RPG that never made it outside of Japan.

You're gonna be really reaching here.

Like all the stuff you're gonna find are likely for PSP.

I'm interpreting "notable" as "not generic, does something unique, or does the normal stuff very well"

Oh I missed the "post-2010" post so I just wasted my time lol
Beyond the PSP and DS you're gonna find like five games total

NES
-Destiny of an Emperor 2 (the first game has official English release but this one is a lot better)
-Radia Senki (pretty good action RPG)
-Sweet Home (horror RPG, serves as the inspiration for Resident Evil)
-Niji no Silkroad (commerce and trading RPG)
-Hoshi wo Miru Hito (notable for being EXTREMELY BAD)
-Lagrange Point (only NES game to use the enhanced audio quality of the VRC7 chip--FM synth on NES!)

SNES
-Adventures of Hourai High (high school setting, job system is which club you're in. Unfortunately the game isn't balanced well)
-Ganpuru: Gunman's Proof (basically Link to the Past but with a cowboy)
-Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon (the first Mystery Dungeon game, spinoff of Dragon Quest IV)
-Dark Half (you alternate between playing as the hero and the villain, with different playstyles)
-Live-A-Live (Each chapter stars a new character in completely different settings, e.g. Ninja, Caveman, Cowboy, etc.; they all come together in the end)
-Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei (enhanced remake of Megami Tensei 1 & 2)
-Shin Megami Tensei
-Shin Megami Tensei 2
-Shin Megami Tensei If...
-Metal Max Returns (nonlinear post-apocalyptic vehicle-based RPG, remake of NES game)
-Rudra no Hihou (unique magic system where you type in a word to cast a spell, which determines what the spell is)
-Front Mission (mecha tactics RPG)
-Front Mission Gun Hazard (sidescrolling spinoff with some action RPG elements)
-All the Fire Emblem games
-Treasure Hunter G (developed by Sting, and thus has a unique, somewhat complicated battle system)
-Tengai Makyou Zero (uses a real-time clock for many elements of the game--you'll need to make sure you're using the right emulator for this game.)

Utawarerumono, and yes. A localized remake of the original is coming soon, and the two sequel games are already available officially in English. (All on PS4.)

To clarify, Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth are the sequel games, which are SRPG's with a very, very heavy emphasis on story. (Many consider them primarily visual novels. At least 1 hour of dialogue/story between battles is normal and sometimes it's much more than that.) The remake of the first game has the subtitle "Prelude to the Fallen".

Utawarerumono Zan is a non-mainline musou game that I think covers the same story content as Mask of Deception, though I'm guessing it will be in a reduced capacity. There's also a gacha game that isn't available in English anyways, but the title of that one is Utawarerumono: Lost Flag.

the remake and the mask games are also for vita

also to clarify more accurately, the "remake" is more like... well, one in a limited sense. they adapt the 3d battle system of the mask games to the original and drop some very minor ui aspects, otherwise it's about the same with a little bit more content and HD. it's worth noting that the battle system was already remade once for it on ps2 and most of the added scenes (there actually aren't very many) came from that

also it's very much also an srpg with a VN level plot, presented like one and all

this was a more commonplace thing in the 90s really and it was on the tail end of that minor fad

We never got the PS2 version of it though and the battle system of the original PC version frankly sucked so its still a huge improvement either way.

no, it got outright cancelled IIRC, with some bs about "well bamco's bringing over a lot of tales games, maybe they'll release an official localization or remake it and localize it like Hearts".

though, someone else ended up translating the psx Tales of Phantasia before they finished their version.
