Water snobs are gross, and fluoride conspiracy theorists are even worse. I legit feel for people living off well water though, or those who have shitty public water. Well water particularly can taste funny, even with the right treatment equipment in place. I drank a ton of bottled water during my college years because the water smelled and tasted so weird it was actually hard to swallow. Sometimes it did taste. Even if you could get past the taste and smell, there was always a lot of dirt or minerals or something in it which was gross too. Even ignoring all the potential arguments that could be had over what chemicals are added and which ones aren't removed in municipal supplies, the fact of the matter is that the majority of the infrastructure used to deliver the water is extremely old and potentially leeching unsafe amounts of heavy metals into the supply. Late last year there was news story about how thousands of water samples were tested across Canada and all showed high levels of lead were present.
