Jesus also said love one another, which goes against most modern Conservative beliefs.

Jesus gave to the poor in charity. Charity is something conservatives strongly agree with and support, the social fabric holding people up.

Jesus did not go to the Roman Empire and demand the government give everyone free food.

He was a socialist, though.

even apart from political ideology, the bible portrays jesus as shirking and setting himself apart from the government of his time period, rebelling against the sensibilities and social expectations of his community, offhandedly resisting and discrediting its leaders, and staging both violent and nonviolent protests.

he was a lot more than "progressive for his time" and way more radical than modern liberals who are largely comfortable with the current system and want to make small incremental changes

He was a progressive for his time because he had a different, more liberal view of Judaism than the religious leaders at the time. Although he also said that it was important to follow the Law so he wasn't a modern Reform Jew either.

He didn't stage violent protests or any organized protests at all. If you call speaking/teaching against religious leaders protests, then yeah he did that.

First of all I love that there's any degree of doubt that Jesus Christ would be refused citizenship to the USA in this comment

Second of all, Jesus Christ would absolutely be refused citizenship to the USA lmao

He chased moneylenders out of temples with a whip he braided himself.

That's probably gonna be my only response to derailing comments in this thread. Jesus was seen as a radical, and he chased people out of temples with a whip who were using them explicitly for profit.

how is going into a temple, vandalizing the merchant stalls, setting free their livestock, and forcefully driving them from the premises not a violent protest?

how is being so radical in your reformative views to the point that you are executed as an usurper king "progressive for your time"

wtf are you talking about

It was important to follow laws so long as they weren't in conflict with his ideals. You may recall some tables being flipped.

Im definitely not religious and the Bible can suck it, but man, it is always amusing to see Breadline Bernouts that typically identify as Atheist and almost have as much of a disapproving view on Christianity as I happen to go on about what Jesus would and wouldnt do lol.

Why's it amusing that people who don't like Christianity still know about Jesus? Are you saying you haven't even educated yourself enough to know why you would dislike Christianity?

The first one is really stretching the definition of staging protests (let alone violent protests). And using that single example and saying "Jesus staged violent protests" is just being dishonest. So is teaching differently from what the religious leaders taught. But to answer your second question also, you could get killed for a lot less back then than you could even go to jail for today in a western country. Several times in the Gospels people threaten to stone Jesus for blasphemy, a woman is about to be stoned for committing adultery before Jesus saves her, etc.

I'm not a religious person, but I've always felt the rebuttal to that was in the 10 commandments: thou shalt not steal. Steal = to take which isn't yours. Yours is not whatever you can convince yourself is yours, but what someone is willing to give you in fair exchange.

This doesn't let conservatives off the hook, but don't be surprised if every person looking to take from the wealthy to avoid a useful job of their own share the same room in the hell when the time comes. And remember, God is a force more powerful than mom and dad put together. He she or it will know if you're full of bullshit about your motives.

Or in a different view: yes, greed is a deadly sin, so is sloth, and so is envy.

You're unfortunately closer to the truth than I'd like to admit. Southern Baptists in particular have a sick fascination with vanity.
