How much demand is there for your skillset? Are your living expenses high enough that your new job would have to come with roughly the same salary, or could you afford to earn less without eating into your savings?

If you current job is awful it sounds like it may be time to bail, but run all the numbers first.

Work for temp agencies like People ready and Manpower etc, you can put that on your resume and it keeps you employed till you find another full time gig.

Everything is different today tbh, back in the day it was seriously dumb to quite a job without another one lined up, and many companies actually had loyalty to their employes and would look for the same from them.

Thing is, most companies no longer have any loyalty to employees at all, so it's not expected for you to have the same job at a company for any period of time, or even a solid work history. In addition alot of people free-lance with things like uber etc (which is another thing you can put in your resume even if you only do it every so often).

While I still would always suggest having another job before leaving your current one, and it still is easier to get a job while you are employed (it shows the new position/company you would prefer working for them, than where you were working), it's not as important as it once was.

Still helps a TON to have contacts though, often made through whatever current job you are working. Back in the stone ages when I wasn't either teaching or working in law, I usually got offered new positions based on my reputation at whatever job I was currently working.

Any time I did leave a job without another one already, I generally worked foo Manpower, and quite a few times those jobs turned into permanent ones as well. I had a very good reputation at that company because of that (they get bought out if a company hires and employee perm from them), so that got that buy out at least 3 times over the years from me.

This is definitely a good suggestion. It looks good to new potential employers as well as keeps some money coming in just in case the job search takes a little longer than expected.
