Poll of the Day > I went to an actual movie theater for the first time in however many years...

It was fun. I went with my SO. The seats themselves were pretty nice. The theater is also pretty new. And fancy. They have regular trash cans, but also trash cans for specific items. And a sink to pour the rest of you drink out before tossing it. I didn't like the reserved seating much. He doesn't either. It's hard to tell where you want to sit until you see the theater or whatever. Luckily, because of the super bowl (I assume), it wasn't very crowded. So, we chose different seats to sit in because we didn't like where ours were. We almost had the theater to ourselves, but the couple that came in right after us in the lobby also came to watch the same movie. We still kind of cuddled because of how the chairs were and stuff. And we liked the movie, as well... I guess I'd go again. But I would rather do it on days when the theater is somewhat empty or whatever...

These days I tend to book cinema tickets online so I can see what seats are available and what are not. With that said the ticket seller lets folk look and their screens and pick a seat too if you buy a ticket without booking in advance. I also take in my own drink and snacks. I don't go to the cinema all that much though.

I dont think theyll let us go in and choose. We can choose from a top down view. But its hard to gauge. Also, I had never been to that one. Its not brand new. But still new within like the last year. So, I also didnt even know what the inside of the rooms looked like.

That's why I had to go, friends took me with 'em. I dunno if I ever went to a theater by my own choosing. Got plenty of time, but the costs went up and they aren't something I found interesting. The rare ones that do seem neat show up on TV in a few years.

I still dont like it. I dont arrive right before a movie starts, anyway. I dont mind getting there early and getting a good seat. I dont want to pick out a seat and realize I dont like where I am. Which, like I said, happened last night. I thought I picked seats I would like. I was wrong. We moved a row up.

Maybe. I also don't like getting shitty seats just because I order tickets that day. I don't always know when I'll have free time, nor do I always know when my SO will be free. So, we can't really get tickets early. Meaning by the time we can get tickets, the good seats are usually taken. I just don't like reserved seating and never will. I'm glad that some people like it. It's just not for me... I don't mind getting there early, anyway. Even if I bought reserved seats, I usually get there early, so eh... I know a lot of people like them... I'm not one of those people...

I never knew anything about what they wanted to see. As I've mentioned the Matrix was the last and that was ok. The others I don't recall. I usually knew what movie we were going to see. Not always. And sometimes, I would pick a movie that I wanted to see and we would go. But I did like going. I just haven't done it in a while. Either no one to go with with my SO isn't around. Or no time to go as I was working two jobs until very recently... Or nothing interesting was out. This time, I didn't know anything about the movies. But decided on The Gentlemen. And I like it.

Yeah. It was just a top down view. I couldn't really tell the height or anything. I could barely tell the size of the room in the theater based on that picture. So, I picked seats I thought I would have like. I got the middle, which was good. But the height I got wrong. Or how far back we were. So, we ended up moving up a row... That was much better... But I would think those seats, and the ones right behind would probably be the first to go. Those are prime seats...

Normally back row in the middle is my preference. I'm slightly above average height too so that helps. With that said last time I went I was in the corner on the back row. It wasn't a problem for me despite not being my preference. I'd have moved seats but all the row was taken. This old dear and her daughter kept looking at me and my bro when we we were whispering apparently. I didn't notice as I wasn't doing it much and my eyes were on the screen. I also didn't care.

I think I like the middle of the back row, and one row ahead. I accidentally thought the next row ahead would be fine, too. But it didn't seem the most comfortable. So we skipped it and went up. Which was fine in this mostly the mostly empty theater. I'm not really sure how comfortable I'd have been if we had sat somewhere else. But, eh...

I whisper to my best friend a lot when we see movies together. Usually not loud enough to hear. And we usually aren't close to people other than our friends. We're just usually joking about stupid stuff...

Since when can you select specific seats? You know what really puts it into perspective? 1999 was before cell phones and just before we got broadband here. Back then you got tickets and hoped to find a few clean seats in a row. I bet they look nothing like they used to.

Its not all theaters yet. But most have them. Its a fairly new practice. Like in the last few years. Well, new for most, at least. There were some theaters that had them many years ago. But those were special ones. Like the one that serves food and drinks and such. But lately, many theaters have been getting. Lots of people like them because they can buy their tickets in advance and then not have to show up until the movie starts. Some even skipping previews. Then get to the theater kind of later and spend a couple minutes fighting over the seats they reserved that somebody else took since they were there early. Personally, Im more about the getting there early and wining your seats crowd, but whatever. To each their own... Id rather not get stuck with shitty seats just because I have to buy my tickets late due to not being able to plan out stuff early due to having to work late and stuff... Or things running longer...

I didn't go to the movie theaters much during childhood. However, I was often going to movies during college and the years after that. However, the last few years, my trips to the movie theaters have dwindled. Now, I am really behind with movies.
