This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

If you feel that a character has been over or under-ranked, or if a new development has come up that would affect their contest strength, you may nominate them for a re-ranking. You may nominate one character per day for this, and 3 votes are needed to get them on the slate. One character with 3 votes will come up for re-ranking today.

Ho-Oh: High Fodder - Silver and SoulSilver are easily more popular than Gold and HeartGold, while Lugia itself is likewise easily more popular than Ho-Oh itself. That being said, I doubt Ho-Oh will be that much weaker, seeing as the appeal of both Pokmon is liable to come mainly from their box art/game symbol status.

Chester: LAW Fodder
Mad Piano: Low Fodder - The more compelling question: how many Chesters is the Mad Piano worth? I'll say 4.

Waddle Dee: Low Fodder - See also: my repeated Mid Fodder votes for the infinitely more iconic Goomba, and my reasoning at those times. I would also guess Waddle Dee is worth roughly 4 Chesters.

Nominate Dan Hibiki, Error, Jackie Chan, Lu Bu, Rattata, Shredder, and Toadette.

Also nominate Terry Bogard for re-ranking. His Smash announcement is no longer fresh in most people's minds, and he's failed to become a fan favorite upon actually being added. Also, I would love to hear the argument for him being any better than Low Fodder beforehand.

Ho-Oh (Pokemon) - High fodder

A quick check for polls confirms what I had already was pretty sure of, that Lugia is indeed more popular than Ho-oh.

It might be a little strange for "thing on the box of Gold" Ho-oh to be lower than "thing on the box of Crystal" Suicune but I think Suicune should have been high fodder too so whatever!

Chester (Chester) - LAW Fodder

Obviously.
I'll note that while Chester is the weakest character we've ever had, Dancin' is not far off and is the clear second. He only got 55.39% on Chester despite an absurdly good board vote (he was beating Caim at the freeze!)

Mad Piano (Super Mario 64) - Low fodder.

Waddle Dee - Low fodder

I do think Waddle Dee winds up sorta close to mid fodder just on grounds of being a sorta recognizable Nintendo guy. Think he'd beat Mad Piano without issue.

(Do we measure strength in Chesters by how many times greater their vote share would be over Chester or how many times greater their x-stat value is?)

I also agree, and I suppose this is my fault for giving no reasoning for my High Fodder vote at the time. Suicune's probably about as popular as Lugia, but it gets substantially less box-art support than even Ho-Oh, so I'd guess it's barely High Fodder. That being said, it hasn't been long enough since we rated Suicune for me to nominate it for reranking.

While I do think Waddle Dee would pretty comfortably beat Mad Piano 1-on-1, I'd still take them both to score about the same percent against a neutral opponent.

I was measuring based on x-stat values, but come to think of it, vote share was how we measured strength in Chesters at the time, wasn't it? It's been too long since then for me to remember.

Also nominate Nana, Popo, and Spring Breeze Dancin' I guess.

nominate Chuck Norris for re-ranking, even though I think he does have some strength due to just how absurdly well-known Chuck Norris jokes are.

also nominate Error and Toadette

I will agree with High Fodder for Ho-Oh - though if this were 2010 it would be closer to low mid I think.

Agree with Low Fodder on Mad Piano and Waddle Dee.

Obviously Chester is LAW Fodder - the entire point of him was to be the weakest character to ever make a contest. For my talking point, I think Chester easily beats Gabby Espinoza
