Voted for gary Johnson since both Hillary and trump are awful candidates for different reasons. If Biden wins the democratic nomination I'll probably vote 3rd party again, but otherwise I'll vote Democrat. Which will make them my first repeat vote, since I voted obama, Romney, Johnson.

Depends on where you live. I also voted third party because it was no secret that my state (Massachusetts) was overwhelmingly going to vote for Hillary so I figured I'd try to help a third party out. Obviously I wouldn't risk that if elections were based on popular vote.

I did, hence why I choose to make my vote count towards trying to get 3rd party to the 5% required for national funding.

Take your own advise until you try to increase voter apathy because you want to protect two incompetent and corrupt parties that rely on the ignorance you show cased to keep them in control.

I live in Alabama. My vote has literally never made a difference in the election of a President, but I still vote with the candidate who is both closest to my values and has the best chance of winning. Third party will never be viable because of the way the system works.

See above. I understand the system way better than people who are willing to spread disinformation and split the vote.

The system sucks, but it's what we're stuck with for now. Voting for a third party will literally never change this as things are now. Petition for the abolishment of the electoral college if you want to see someone other than a Democrat or Republican stand a chance of becoming President.

I don't "buy" anything; I just understand how the game has been rigged. You can stay mad about it or you can play as best as you can.

P.S. It doesn't really matter that the parties that exist today didn't exist two hundred years ago. The current parties have entrenched themselves in a way that those old parties didn't. Again, cry about it or learn to deal with it in a constructive way.

Okay Toast, keep telling yourself those things. I'm totally pushing voter apathy in a state where we elected a Democratic Senator thanks to historic voter turnout and interest from a group that has been traditionally oppressed and apathetic. I haven't spent tons of time encouraging my friends and family to vote at all and explaining why it's so important.

I'm sorry that the whole third-party voting thing hasn't returned dividends for you. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

The thing is that today's parties were never really in a position where you could consider them third parties. The Democrats came from the split of the Democratic-Republicans, and the GOP were successors to the Whigs.

They worked within the two party system to elect a candidate who was close to their values. Thanks to that, they got a Senator who represents them.

According to you, they should have stamped their feet and voted for a third party who stood zero chance of winning. Do you think before you speak?
