The scientific definition has always been centered around reproduction and chromosomes. Regarding trans peoples other interests, I do see a pushback in terms of financial support or personal acceptance in some areas. For example, one can harbor no ill will towards someone wanting to undergo a medical transition, but that does not mean everyone will want to pay for it.
