I guess I'm really asking how it compares to the other total war games, though. The only other ones I've played are medieval II, which I only played enough to kind of skim the surface. And Warhammer 1&2, which I have never even played all the way through a proper battle on. I do want to get into a TW game, but I hear Medieval II's main appeal is the modding community, and ATM I feel more interested in a history-based game than fantasy. I made this topic because I was wondering if there is another game that might be better based on the preferences I described.

Napolian Total war is very good. Though I do play it and Medival II with the darth mod, mods. Manly for balance.

The american revolution one is pretty good, on of my favorite area but a bit small for a total war game...Napolian is close enough to that to get my musket fix.

I have the Japanese one, Shogun, but haven't really tried it much. Looks cool though.

Long story short Total War games are an investment, so you have to go all or wait until your ready.

Side note Total War Battles: Kingdoms on mobile is rather good considering it is free.
I've played it a ton, and never spent a cent on it!! It's a perfect little time killer.
