and gives me no incentives to do quests other than to get gold and weapons/armor that I can just get from raiding a tomb or bandit stronghold.

Even then there seems to be no point in leveling up since enemies level with you so they'll be just as strong/weak at the end just as they are at the start.

This is supposed to be Todd Howard's Super Godly Awesome Magnum Opus (it has to be if he keeps trying to get you to buy it over and over) but I don't see why. Yeah the setting and lore is nice but the core of the rpg mechanic is just so backwards for seemingly no reason. Are the previous TES games like this too?

You level up to get perks. Sure, the game gets harder for the first 25 levels but unless you build your character like a complete buffoon from that point onward you get start getting stronger and by 50 you leave everything else in the dust.

It's all about "streamlining" and treating their audience like they're dunces who think RPGs make their brains work too hard or something.

I miss going into the super hard areas of games and trying to get all the awesome weapons/gear. It was a fun challenge.

Yeah but why couldn't it be like Fallout 3/NV? Where I actually have incentives to do quests other than to get a weapon or piece of armor that I'm most likely never going to use.

While your statement is inaccurate, it is certainly original. This is the first time I've heard of it being too easy; normally these complaints about about not being able to get super OP and just stomp whomever you want.

You can adjust the difficulty in Skyrim, and the corresponding rewards will scale with difficulty, if you didn't know.

Skyrim imo is a game with no redeeming qualities. The love for it boggles my mind. It felt dated in 2011

Mods made it better for me and the ability to just run around a world doing fuck all is fun.

However, the writing is shitty, the main villain sucks, the main factions suck, and the main quest lines suck.

I question your taste or ability with imagination. No redeeming qualities? The world is insanely immersive and fun to explore. So much lore to find, mysteries to solve and quests to undertake. Walk around at Night with the Northern Lights happening with the overworld music and tell me it has no redeeming qualities.

Not the biggest fan of the leveling system (Fallout 4 is way worse though) but I don't think that was ever the real selling point of Bethesda RPG's. They're more about just wandering around and getting immersed in the world, doing quests, and adventuring. Not really the stat crunching kind of games, more just RPG's by happenstance or necessity.

You can't say that Skyrim wasn't a step down as an RPG compared to its predecessors. They stripped the hell out of it by removing many skills, spells, etc. and made it a lot more simpler. My statement isn't inaccurate nor original and it was more about how simplified the game was than the difficulty.

It's not like I hate Skyrim either. I've enjoyed it a lot. Just not as much as Morrowind or Oblivion.

Most of the stuff stripped from Oblivion was functionally pointless, and there are a hell of a lot more skills and spells that actually have meaningful differences, as opposed to Oblivion.

I won't argue against Morrowind. Regardless of redundancy and my distaste for the combat mechanics, it had the most customization, which was a big part of the point of that game.

Fallout 3 usually gives you very little for doing quests, it's all about exploring for the unique stuff and killing things for XP. The only difference is that in Skyrim the best crap is stuff you enchant yourself, or if you don't want to do that stuff you find in shops with good enchantments...which you buy with money you got from exploring and killing things for their lootables.

New Vegas is the best, of course, but it's a 90s RPG more than anything else and that's why it's best.
