The Italian Basketball Federation says the country will mourn for a full 7 days to pay tribute to the star

Kobe spoke fluent italian after moving to Reiti at 6 years old in the 1980's with his family so his dad, Joseph could play for various local teams. He was ona youth team while still in school and impressed coaches with his skills

He returned to the UnitedStates after training camps at 13 years old. Italian Basketball Federation's president, Givoanni Petrucci said "We are shocked and saddened by what happened to him and his daughter, Gianna and we hold his family close to our hearts at this moment of sorrow. It's a small gesture to honour Kobe's memory but one that is heartfelt and deserved"

Bryant credited his Italian hometown with the skills he developed in Italy and held the country dear to his heart.

The 10 people on board the helicopter were said to have died on impact after it took off in 15 seconds and that foggy conditions were the cause of the crash. The other people on board were said to have been Gianna's basketball teammates and their parents, a coach and the pilot

Audio from the pilot's interactions with air traffic controllers showed he intendedto follow the main road below towards Gianna's basketball academy but veered off path and ended up crashing on a hill. It is possible he became disoriented from poor visibility and thick fog and clouds. Despite all this, he was given special clearance to fly because of his years of experience.

Do you think California should follow Italy's suit for a state mourning and to tribute the NBA legend?
