Should hope for as close to $0 as possible. The more you "get back," the more money you loaned the government interest-free.

Who cares
People who parrot what other people tell them in an effort to seem smart.

If you need someone on ce to tell it to you, you weren't going to do anything with the money beyond waste it on small incremental purchases.

Given most of the country lives paycheck go paycheck tax returns get used for large purchases and/vacations.

At least they're courteous enough to give it back and instead of being like "well fuck off, ours now"

We're getting...~$1600 back. I would love to get it close to zero but knowing our luck, if we tried messing with any exemptions any further, we'd probably end up owing.

But also I don't get why someone would care.

If I get $1200 back that's $100 a month across a year.

If that $100 is the difference between you being financially stable or solvent

Then you got bigger problems than taxes

This has been my luck for the past several years. The amount owed keeps getting lower at least. Last year it was only about $500 IIRC. Only expecting to owe about 1k this time because I made about $2000 Ubering last year and need to pay taxes on that in addition to my regular taxes.

Getting back less =/= you paid more in taxes.

They completely adjusted the withholdings this year so people would get lower refunds and more cash each paycheck.

Clearly you don't take advantage of various tax write-offs and whatnot.
