The majority of fans feel attached to someone because they watched him/her through a screen for decades. However, they don't really know the person (whether or not he was actually a rapist for example, which most people would excuse considering his fame).

If that helicopter was just random people literally nobody would care (you get what I mean). People die, life moves on.

Somebody like Kobe dies, the world stops for the entire day. In addition, let's be honest... it's all about Kobe and his daughter... like can we even name the other people involved without researching it?

If you died tomorrow, how many people will you reach?

Nope, I just find it interesting how attached people get to celebrity figures (strangers) and how said celebrities can easily overshadow the death of others.

Guy was only 10 years older than me and was a household name most of my life.

He was the definition of an exceptional person. And calling him a rapist(today of all days) considering the muddyness of those claims is fucked up as hell

Literally every single time a celebrity dies. It's hilarious that a child died in a helicopter crash though, lol why should we care?

I simply said that you do not know him as a person and used that case as an example. Overall, my main point here is that I find it interesting how attached people get to strangers that they watch on TV. I also find it amazing how 9 people died, but we can only name Kobe and his daughter (that's what the world really cares about in this tragedy). Again, just saying I find it interesting.

You have made 2 posts so far and you are hurt as fuck over it for whatever reasons. Again, my point exactly.

It's not surprising in the least if you think about it for even half a second.

The guy was a public figure who influenced and affected the lives of millions of people across the globe. He did so through his athletic achievements, his philanthropy, and through his day-to-day dealings with friends and family. Random Joe Shmoes like you and me only do the last part.

It's also pretty stupid to claim that just because someone didn't know Kobe personally that he hasn't influenced their life. Have you literally never heard of the concept of "pop culture"? Famous actors, athletes, politicians, celebrities, etc all have huge impacts on peoples' lives whether they actually ever shook a given person's hand or not. You'd have to be pretty ignorant of the world to think otherwise.

Well of course people would care more about a celebrity who entertained them for years than someone who they never heard of. Like why does it matter if you don't really know the person behind the celebrity? Why do you have to know them personally for them to have an impact on your life?

Also not sure about the whole "the world stops" thing, like all I've seen were people getting a bit sad, then moved on with their daily lives. like the people who worked today (like me) still worked and did their jobs and lived just like any normal day lol

Well yeah.

Famous people are elevated by the masses during their lifetime (generally) whereas the average person isn't. It's incredibly predictable that people would care about someone like Kobe dying despite not knowing them personally, since people still "know" them. Or rather their image.

Yes, of course.

Again, I am just fascinated by how the human brain operates. That is all. I find it interesting.

I don't beleive I was being too harsh in the OP, but I was attacked as if I attacked somebody's family member. Again, I am fascinated by the level of attatchment an individual could have over a complete stranger and how that stranger (celebrity) can overshadow the death of others with ease. Essentially, a lot of the world is mourning as if they lost somebody close, but those same people probably don't really feel the same about the no-name pilot and anyone else that was involved. Again, I'm just fascinated by it. I never said Kobe did not deserve it.

Nah, TC knew what he was doing when he stuck that insult in there. It seems to bother him that Bryant is getting a lot of attention and love, although its true that he wasnt someone any of us knew personally. If youre going to shit on someone after theyre dead, you might as well man up and own your message.

Again, my point is made.

Why do you feel like it was an insult? Who am I insulting? Did I insult Kobe? Do you feel offended (as Solid Snake does) because I brought up something that occurred in his personal life (that is not relevant to you)? Do you feel the need to defend Kobe? If so, why? As a reminder, I only said "whether or not he did" basing my information on what I have seen others discuss on social media.

And once again, we're still on the subject of Kobe which is fine but it has become quite a touchy subject at this point in the topic. Again, why? How did we even get here? All good questions relating to the level of attachment one can feel for a complete stranger (specifically a celebrity).

The level of attachment is fascinating to me, I don't think this level of attachment would occur for the no-name pilot. I don't think I personally attacked Kobe, but yet here we are.

Overall, a sad day indeed for all that feel pain over this loss whether or not it be you reading this or the multiple families involved (not just Kobe's family).
