The Trump administration continues hacking away at Michelle Obama's healthy guidelines for lunches at american schools after overturning all the rules where cafeterias can bring back selling junk food such as FRENCH FRIES and BURGERS on the menu and now the exploited a "loophole" that allows them to bring certain PASTAS on the menu to qualify as VEGETABLES for students!!

The US Dept of Agriculture proposals will continue to erode Michelle Obama's legacy by easing restrictions on the types and quanities on fruit and veggies as Pasta that is made from vegetable flour may now credit as a vegetableeven if the pasta is served with another recognized vegetable

They said the changes will help reduce food waste because students often given too much fruit and veggies which is thrown away as Sonny Perdue said schools tell them there's too much waste and kids don't want to eat their fruits and veggies and now they're giving them "what they really want"

These provisions are more "a la carte" meals that brings in pizzas and burgers that also reduces fruit intake at breakfast as the rest of the calories are made up with pastries and grnola and allow potatoes to qualifty as a vegetable every day

Colin Schwartz said these changes will now create a huge loophole in school nutrition guidelines paving away for children to choose pizzas, burgers, french fries and other foods high in fat and calories and carb or sodium in place of balanced meals

Obama's Hunger Fre Kids Act of 2010 was hailed as a step towards reducing childhood obesity where fruits and veggies and whole grains were given as portion sizes were reduced as american's obesity epidemic was out of control that was putting a strain on healthcare costs

Trump has targeted environmental and public health regulations since taking over as he's also made sweeping environmental rollbacks that could leave waterways vulnerable to pollution

Trump doesn't shy from the fact that he enjoys fatty foods as McDonalds has been his favourite fast food as well as serving them when people visit the White House

In retrospect, tomato sauce from pizza and pasta should count as a vegetable serving. The issue is that school lunches are packed with high calorie carbs and sugar. Pizza, burgers, and french fries all fall into those categories. High cal diets are fine for some people, especially active growing teens, but America (and the world) has an obesity problem in part because of easy access to cheap high cal carbs and sugars.
So whether or not they count as a vegetable, nutrition needs to be looked at as a whole and Trump is likely just trying to cut costs here.
