Id like better vocational training and make that free, but theres too heavy an emphasis on college degrees. Were it not for my masters degree, my college education would have been practically worthless. You can get at least a few years out of a trade, and figure out what you want to do if youre not interested.

Free college works if you offer only useful programs/degrees. If you want to fuck around with a Philosophy major, do it on your own dime. You should also have to pay if you fail it, for wasting everyone's time and taxpayer dollars.

Student loans being such a burden is in part because people make really stupid decisions in college... I'd rather not pay for that...
Things like universal healthcare and a universal basic income would make college more reachable for everyone, but would still force you to have skin in the game. I think forcing schools, particularly state ones to tighten up and lower costs would be a great step. Force them to lose their non profit status of they aren't operating like one, and force them to lose their accreditation if that doesn't work. We can't continue to give money to badly run institutions that aren't putting students long term financial success first. --- These minor spelling errors were brought to you by an ipad having no real feedback to enable me to know when i mistype and my own laziness. ... Sorry, that's not something that is bettering society by the government paying for it. Yes.
Society as a whole is richer when people get educated because they produce higher level technology so the country's GDP increases. It's not spending it's investment. Granted you could have some of that spending be directed to technical courses since those are also needed, but no need to eliminage college education. And the complaint about people taking human science courses falls flat becaise those tend to be the cheapest anyway. The rral expensive courses are related to health and engineering, for example, and those are the ones a country needs most. If funding those is necessary you can increase spending a bit and fund the cheap ones too. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Can you imagine if College became like public High School? Which essentially is what would happen down the line if it became free. its completely different because you have to apply to college and get in via merit (although that is not always the case); you dont apply to most public high schools. And there are already plenty of rich kids going to college on their parents money who dont give a shit or take it seriously whatsoever. Furthermore, before we can even have the discussion on why education should be free, we need to take a step back. Food, clothing, and shelter the necessities for humans to live should also be free.
