Of course, one of the main reasons is that home graphical technology caught up with arcade technology. I still visit the local arcade occasionally, but never really play anything. To think, all those fun racing games from back in the day, like VR, Daytona, Sega Rally, Manx TT and Ridge Racer 1, along with various light gun games, like Virtua Cop and Time Crisis. And before that, MK2, SF2, and before even that, Pac-Man and such.

What happened, my friends?

I never really got why graphics were that important of a thing tbh. Only real reason I could see myself caring enough is in that short time when 3D was pretty much only possible in arcades.

Idk man, some of the PS1 era graphics are ROUGH to look at now and that hinders gameplay

It was drawing enough away that it started to affect prices. 25 to 50 to 1 dollar.

Death.

I'm actually in the middle of a PS1 game right now. Xenogears.

It's particularly offensive because it uses that awful-ass nearest neighbor sprite scaling garbage so like in some shots your dude's left eye is twice as big as his right eye. It's awful as hell and I legit have no idea how anyone ever thought it was a good idea.

But the game is still plenty fun. Why would having a deformed face negatively affect gameplay?

I mean, if your game has a crappy framerate in an attempt to get more detail, I suppose that could be a problem, but that's not the system's fault. That's just somebody made a bad game.

but you can play an arcade game for $ 1. You can't buy a console for $ 1.

Compare playing MK2 for a month with 30$ as opposed to having to buy a SNES and a MK2 cart...

Yeah late 90s was about it in America. The last fad was that DDR shit. The glory years was in the 80s, and the early 90s when fighters hit it big. After that it was a matter of time before they died.

PSX graphics look worse on flat screen monitors because of the pixel perfect aspect and upscaled resolution. If you play it on a CRT monitor or apply similar filters it will look a lot better.
