Its up for debate on if it really happened or not.

Personally I think everything did happen. If it was all in his head I think it does weaken the movie

And yea, it was a great movie. I actually was not looking forward to watching it because the trailers looked awful, but I loved it

Then I need to believe it was real, but that doesnt make sense, why would the same social worker be there? But she did look older so it could have been a flash forward. I dunno. It didnt need that scene. Majorly took down a perfect movie. We dont need dumb was it real or not twist in this movie.

What not happening?

Yeah I just saw the movie recently too and it was weird. At first i thought it was just decent but then i couldnt get it out of my head and it grew on me.

Wait do you mean it not happening in the sense that the joker makes up or actually can't remember his own origin?

The whole movie was him telling a story to the social worker.

I was unsure if it was the same woman. But hey she lost her job due to lack of funding. Wouldnt be a shocker if they took her back on because she had worked with him before. At first shes just dealing with a regular mentally unwell person. Now hes a a criminal with mental instability. Having her on board is more valuble than just having her notes on him so seems logical that NOW they are willing to keep paying her.

I didnt get that impression. The end just seemed to imply to me that he did finally get taken down but it wasnt the end for him either.

You know just to make it seem more like they werent glorifying his deeds. So in the end he is locked up

Pretty sure everything did happen. Also pretty sure he was Thomas Wayne's son.

Now that I dont believe. I believe his mother was just delusional. I mean everything about Arthur and his mothers relationship just screamed weird so i felt both where off in the head so that part made sense to me

only thing i didnt like about the movie was the whole Bruce Wayne thing. kind of corny honestly. not to mention some of the characters looked way roo cartoonish the way they were portrayed (like the 3 rich pricks who bullied him on the train).

also, why do you need the flashbacks showing that the relationship he had with his neighbour was fake? did they assume that people are dumb to understand facial expressions and shit?

other than that, i really enjoyed the movie.

Thomas gaslit her. The picture Arthur has of his mother says something like "love Thomas" on the back. They were definitely fucking.

See I thought it was real until they showed it wasnt. But thats because i wanted to believe it was due to the under the red hood orgin story he did have a girl. So my thoughts where "oh they made he already have a kid this time ok.." I was expecting them to get killed off

And on thr bruce Wayne thing. I actually laughed they included batmans orgin story basically. I wasnt even mad in every batman story it annoys me that they show the death of his parents and this isnt even a fucking batman movie and they showed it anyways. They caught me off guard with that

As said it made me laugh. Cause they cram that scene dowm our throats every chance they get with batman related stories. Didnt see it coming since technically batman isnt part of the story but they did it anyways.

I just watched it this week for the first time at home on bluray and I in no way got the "this might not have actually happened" vibe. It's a pretty straightforward film.

I do agree that showing Bruce's parents getting killed seemed incredibly out of place.

It's up for debate imo. She could have written it herself, but I think it showed that wasn't the case because it didn't match her writing in the letters?

I thought that too. He could have easily discredited her, and worse, had her locked away in an institution. He had the power and influence, nobody was going to side with a low level secretary who could just be looking for attention or a pay day.

I lean more toward the movie being fake or mostly fake since the events of the movie lead to Joker creating Batman instead of the other way around. That's probably like his ultimate power fantasy. But the whole city embracing the clown revolution, him being able to come and go unabated at the theater and asylum, and other things.. don't seem very realistic. He could have really killed those people though.

He escapes arkham all the time so that i bought. Also movie was set in the 80s so on the theatre front security wasnt what it is today.

I didn't catch any implication that it didn't really happen. That would contradict the part about the girlfriend being all in his head. "And then, in this story that didn't really happen, I faced up to the fact that she wasn't really with me. So I killed her and her child. (Maybe.) But that didn't really happen either."

I guess the movie having him as an unreliable narrator would allow it to fit in the DCEU if they chose. Little inconsistencies like Bruce Wayne going to see Zorro: The Gay Blade instead of a re-release of The Mark of Zorro would make sense.
