If you found out your neighbors were doing this, would you blow the whistle on them?

29 y/o Sausage Girl, Savannah Grillot and her equally ugly boyfriend, 25 y/o Corey Curnutt from California were arrested after they BAITED thieves by putting out unsecured bikes and then BEAT them with ALUMINUM BATS and then put the assault on YOUTUBE!!

They were busted in Visalia as authorities said they are charged with numerous assaults with a deadly weapon and conspiracy

It happened in July 2019 and continued until November as they shared the assaults on youtube awhere it showed would be thieves attemptign to steal the paitned blue bike but not getting far as the duo would come out with bats and chased the thieves and visioucly beat them with the bats

The victims suffered non-life threatening injuries and only 4 have been identified

Neighbors said they were initially FINE with what they did but grew concerned with the people injured

Savannah is also in the NAVY as the a spokesperson said she is a sailor in the Lemoore Navy Base

When asked why she did this, Savannah said she was taking the law in her OWN HANDS after failed attempts to stop crime in the area

If you found out your neighbors were doing this, would you blow the whistle on them?

It's far more damaging. But an aluminum bat is perfectly weighted and incredibly easy to swing around, with far less risk if you miss a swing.

I feel there are some shades of gray in here.

If they got their bikes stolen several times, they kept getting ignored by the police or being told "lol git good at security" by them and it's been happening many times I can see how they got sick of it and decided "fuck it, now I'm gonna do the same thing I always do but wait with a baseball bat".

It's still crazy and I'd not do it, but it does help qualify their state of mind

Nope. Entrapment must involve an element of coercion, i.e. they must be forced into committing a crime they would not have otherwise done of their own free will. This is no more than a sting operation that was not sanctioned by local law enforcement.

I have no pity for the thieves, but this is not the way.

I certainly sympathize with the frustration of having their property stolen, but that sympathy stops when they begin leaving their property unsecured on purpose just so they have an excuse to beat people with bats. In my eyes this makes them quite a bit worse than someone who just stole a bike

in short this is kinda how I feel. If I was worried with theft problems in my neighborhood, i'd take reasonable security steps to prevent my stuff, like getting a dog and posting signs, a security system, making sure my stuff is locked up and out of sight if possible, buying a gun because all means during a "natural" theft you are allowed to protect yourself and your valuables.

The problem is, they planted something easy to steal knowing full well somebody would try, and then proceeded to jump them with baseball bats. This wasn't an accident, such as a wallet slipping out of a pocket being picked up, or a locked car broken in to, which happens and deserve no blame for somebody trying with force to stop the theft. But this was inviting people to steal, and then beating them up. I'd rather just protect my stuff and arm myself if somebody in a more natural environment tried to take it. Inviting criminals onto your property is a bad idea. They could have had guns or knives and won the fight. Maybe the criminals trying to steal don't learn a lesson(as criminals sometimes are loathe to do) but come back armed, or get other houses, still, while armed making it less safe for everybody involved. Stealing is wrong, obviously. I was caught for petty theft in a store at age 18 and have never done it since, so on some level, I know what its like.

If these people were caught by the police their sentence would be, what maybe a few tears max? most civilized societies have moved on from beating/torturing/killing people who commit theft.
