The gameplay is incredible and the options and goofy shit you can do are peerless in the genre.
The game looks great.
Shining Lights, Even in Death is one of the greatest missions in gaming history.
The open world isn't utilized to it's full advantage but it is more than good enough.
There is a lot of filler but the gameplay is good enough and diverse enough that it never gets old.
The story is gobbledygook but that's what you play MGS for to begin with.
Sins of the Father and Quiet's theme are top tier songs.
There are at least half a dozen 10/10 memes spawned from this game.
Quiet's contributions to cosplay and rule 34 will never be forgotten.
CE is full of shit.
Fite me.
That is all, have a great day.

It's carried so hard by its gameplay, but it has such a satisyfing gameplay loop. What I wouldn't do for 1 more game in the MGS2/3 engine, though.

tbh, it has my favorite story in the series, if you include mission 51, but it sucks how it's not included with the game.

and it can get really repetitive, but that's mostly if you do the side-content; it's fine outside of that, IMO, but you pretty much have to do it if you want a lot of the better upgrades.

I never understood how it was so hated. The gameplay was absurdly fun, my only issue is that there wasn't much memorable bases to go through.

I thought it was great too. The gameplay was phenomenal and gave the player so much to work with. You can complete missions in dozens of different ways and have a completely different experience.

It's a fun gameplay experience, but it's just a sandbox. Only a handful of missions actually feel significant. Probably 80% of the 'main missions' are just elevated side missions given some 'bonus meaning' by pre-mission briefings.

"This nameless soldier guy has some password or intel we need, go abduct him."

If you play Ground Zeroes, then compare the variety and depth of its side missions to the 'side missions' in MGSV, you'll realize that the game was meant to be much more robust. They were rushed, and the pacing suffered terribly because of it. Not to mention all the missing content from chapter 3.

I never played a previous MGS game and loved V once it opened up. Just a great sandbox.

Though I'm stuck on some mission in the jungle with those ghost snipers targeting me

It's a great game, played it for 17 hours straight on release (skipped all the possible cutscenes) but some of the missions have terrible pacing like getting to Codetalker. Any thing is that without Infinite Heaven to mod certain aspects, its' too annoying/easy. Annoying in that Kojima wants a fucking 30 second intro and outro per mission which spoils who shows up. But also very easy even without any of the buddies. It gets to the point where you can just tranq most of the base/distract them and fulton what you need.

But it's definitely the best one of the series.

Incredible gameplay. This game would have went down in history as one of the greatest. Konami should have allowed Hideo Kojima to finish.
