She's cute and she's friendly but jesus this dog is bad. Shits everywhere (managed to get her to start peeing on puppy pads but she refuses to do anything outside, only in the house), the most aggressive beggar of food I've ever seen (we have to put her in her cage or else she'll be constantly jumping at you for it), and steals food whenever she can, for example she just stole a chicken bone as my wife was throwing them in the garbage, i had to force her mouth open and my wife had to take it out while she was trying to bite my fingers.

Tempted to get rid of her to say the least.

Some animals are just bad eggs that take more work. Meat dogs especially don't really come from a place where they're ready to adapt to human home life. They're still operating on instincts because they were basically feral.

It wasn't at a meat market long before being rescued. She was abandoned by her previous owner about a week prior to that. Then picked up by police and put into "detention" for 3 days and then sold to the meat vendor (when police pick up a dog off the street, they are put in detention for 3 days to give owners a chance to find them and take them back, if they aren't picked up during that time period then they are euthanized or sold/given to meat vendor).

Likely was abandoned by her previous owners for the things I stated above.

I rescued a standard poodle from the same fate. She leaves in 9 days for her new home in Sweden (up until last week my city had a ban on dogs over 35cm and 9kg and we didn't want her to be killed so we only fostered her instead of adopting her). I would much rather we were keeping the poodle. She is very good in the house, doesn't try to steal food or beg, doesn't shit and piss everywhere, etc.

We had a dog (might have been a stray) that was wandering around our apartment complex about a month ago. People caught it, killed it, strung it up to a tree, skinned it, and butchered it right there in the middle of the complex (maybe 150m from my apartment). Luckily we weren't out walking with my daughter so she could have seen that.

I live in a tier 2 city, this kinda of stuff isn't supposed to happen in these cities (more in southern provinces like Guangdong, or rural areas) so it was kinda shocking.

Chinese cities go by a tier system. Tier 1 cities are considered the best cities (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzen, Beijing, etc). Then there are tier 2 cities (Hangzhou, Ningbo, etc). They are high end cities as well but aren't considered as important. After that you have tier 3 and lower. The lower the tier the worse the city is typically. While Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities are fairly wealthy and modern, the same can't be said about the others.

Dogs have always been bred specifically as companion or work animals. The same can't be said about goats, pigs, and cows. Those animal only exist in the way we know them today due to animal husbandry. They have been bred for one reason and one reason only.

i don't regret "adopting" my current dog as a puppy. she's a really good dog despite barking in a friendly manner towards people.
