This casting is one of those great examples of why you can never trust a trailer; everyone is just perfect. It's gonna be funny if they try to age up Ciri when her actress is already close to adult age, although I'm guessing the books did it differently than the games.

I wonder how they're gonna pace the following seasons though; this one was pretty slow but with good reason

i also thought it was really, really good.

i have a few complaints, mostly about the pacing and a little about the casting, but overall it really did feel like The Witcher and i only wanted more when it was over.

The names, places, kingdoms, etc. might be a little too much to remember for the uninitiated, but overall, I thought season one was pretty enjoyable. Even the casting choices that seemed iffy wound up being pretty great. Nilfgaardian armor still had that low-quality look, though.

it's alright, but the non-linear narrative wasn't handled as well as it could have, IMO, and Ciri's storyline wasn't that interesting.

I liked Geralt and Yen's, though, with Yen taking the edge.

One of the rare cases where professional critics can't be trusted.

It has flaws, namely the time jumps, some strange character and prop designs, some mediocre acting, and the writing is sometimes sloppy. They really need to get better at explaining lore, characters, core concepts etc.

Wasn't it this one where Entertainment weekly came out and openly said they watched episode 1, part of episode 2 then jumped to episode 5 and bashed the show for not making sense?

Because the story is super generic fantasy? It's not particularly well written. It's just really cool looking.

Arent they supposed to be borderline savages though?

One question I also had while watching is why Ciris parents arent around. Wasnt it her father that made Geralt her guardian in the game? And wasnt she the princess of an Empire, not a kingdom? Again, I know they followed the books and not the games for the show, but I feel like those are kinda big things to overlook.

I think I heard about this in a cr1tikal video, they freely admitted to not watching most of the show and skipping entire episodes then gave the whole show a 0/10.

Shit sucks when people don't give a good show a chance and gloat about it. Reminds me of people who shit on Titans because of Starfire - that show is a goofy, fun time. The Witcher might be worse off because the lashing is coming from professional critics, but I can understand the bafflement that comes from people shafting a show for stupid-ass reasons.

I thought it was pretty bad coming from a book reader.

My friends who were more into the games didn't like it at all, and brought it up to me first.

Did they know that it was based off of the books primarily and not the games?

I think the only major influence the games had were how the characters looked and talked.

Im kinda glad they used a mixed race for Yennefer

Lets be real theyre not finding someone thats gonna be 1:1 to her game counterpart so might as well add their own flair to it

Henry Cavil is absolutely perfect though, never thought Id say that after seeing the trailer and going Ehhh. I know some may disagree with me but I think he even gets the voice right; maybe his British accent helps with that.

Speaking of that, I think its funny how a story primarily based on Polish influences is overloaded with a British cast lol

They answered that in the show: Pavetta and Duny were on a ship that sunk during a storm. Whether they explore her father's identity in the next season will be interesting.

Also I'm not sure where you got the impression that Nilfgaard were borderline savages from. Highly fanatical yes, but not savages.

I enjoyed the show a lot (enough to watch it all within two days) although it had a few issues that are mostly me nitpicking. Certainly scratched a Witcher itch and I'm looking forward to season 2.

Not sure. I've only really played Witcher 3 and I liked it. And the show is based on the books which I believe are prequels to the first game?

Nah I get that they do explain what happened to her parents, but I think its weird that her grandparents are the ones raising her here when her father was alive and still the Emperor in the game IIRC

Nilfgaard seemed like Mongolian archetypes for me lol, I guess it was just their black armor and savagery that made me make the connection. The fact that theyre apparently an empire just makes me roll my eyes too; dunno why people think empires always have to represent the bad guys in all medieval-era media

The way they handled the multiple timelines was annoying. Like thered be an action scene in the past and in the middle of it theyd switch to the future timeline just for a few seconds to show Ciri running. The multiple timelines werent difficult to follow, it was just annoying. Other shows have done it way better.

Also the fast forwarding in Geralt & Yennefers relationship reminded me of the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones but a little worse. Telling instead of showing. They meet & f*** at the end of one episode, then the very next episode they meet again, talk about the many times theyve been together, argue and break up. They should have added another 2 episodes to make it 10. Two monster of the week episodes in which they could work together & banter.

Great show though 8/10, excited for future seasons.
