It was good. What's the problem?

Can anyone dislike it without having nostalgia goggles for the originals?

While I personally really enjoyed it, I will never argue the point that it is a bizarrely paced movie

It had a buttload of little brainfart-tier mistakes but I didn't dislike it in broad strokes.

None of the decisions in the movie make any difference.

It was super fast-paced and action packed, to the point where there were hardly any actual scenes. Every character was completely wasted except for Rey and Kylo.

Having said that, I enjoyed it.

Although I was fine with it, was bummed out at how hollow it felt. Like... the entire trilogy wasn't satisfying at all. The ending, I didn't feel fulfilled.

Like Endgame. Endgame made me feel satisfied. Like I am completely fine with the core MCU members going away for good after that.

But rise of skywalker... it was like. That's it?

I'm not a star wars fan but I did enjoy TLJ. I was hoping this movie would be good but I didn't like it much.

It just opens up just casually talking about Palpatine as if he hadn't died, as if we're supposed to know that he was revived and how he came back, and he just goes "I was every bad guy, that was all me [even though I have no reason to be alive now and I'm not gonna bother explaining how I'm alive again]"

So many characters have nothing to do. Finn was wasted and so was Poe, they obviously had chemistry and should have been gay for each other. The new characters added in this movie don't really do or add much. I don't get how Holdo was able to gather so many helpers so quickly when in the last movie they struggled so much more. The first half of the movie is just searching for an item which they stumbled upon by bizarre luck falling into the right sand pit. And which was ultimately inconsequential because in the end Rey just uses Ren's wayfinder to get to Palpatine. Finn has a bizarrely useless moment where he almost confesses his love and it just goes nowhere. The story echoes the original trilogy too much except it's less satisfying seeing Ren choose to be good compared to seeing Vader choose to be good. And I would have preferred if Ren had lived instead of Rey, since what we got feels too similar to what happened between Vader and Luke and I would have preferred them to explore how a redeemed Ren would move forward as a good guy. Instead of Rey who was always good.

The movie also just feels crammed full of stuff happening, but lacking in compelling emotional drive. The most compelling parts of these movies IMO have been Ren and Rey's relationship and development, and I wanted more about that. This is the finale of the big trilogy and it started me off groaning with "why is palpatine here" and finished with a kind of by-the-books final confrontation.

For me I liked the ending.

It was that first half that was a bit iffy. The Palpatine 'twist' was a really disappointing direction after TLJ.

The first third of the movie was just a constant whiplash of "Something's happening! Look a thing and next scene!" No time to let anything soak in or have any real impact. The rest of the movie actually had scenes that lasted longer than five seconds, but there were still issues with things moving so quickly you couldn't think about any of them at times.

All of Leia's scenes where she was interacting with other characters consisted of just saying one line of completely generic, vague wisdom (for obvious reasons) and I feel like the movie would have been better off not trying to use those snippets at all.

This is my opinion too. Nothing new or original in the ST. It has no reason to exist ither than Disney making money and trying to show that they could do a 3-part Star Wars story better than anyone else.

RoS isn't on the level of Empire Strikes Back or Last Jedi, but it's a fun action ride in the Star Wars universe. It has some good moments emotionally and a ton of "Hell yeah!" beats, so on average it's a very strong movie.

Sure, it can be nitpicked to hell, but so can ESB.
