I never called it the 2000's or the 2010's, but I think I'm ok with calling the next one the 2020's.

When I was a kid, our church's youth choir put on a play called Christmas 2020, which was about a group of kids and a time-traveling robot who go back in time to witness the birth of Jesus.

Christmas 2020 is now less than a year away, where's my dog-damned time-traveling robot?

I was okay with 2000's, but 2010's always just felt awkward to me. Using "10's" to refer to the 1910's felt similarly awkward, so I think it's just a function of trying to label the decade with a single syllable.

Technically, but theyre rarely referred to as 1-0 instead of 0-9. The topic title is correct though cause if said 2010s and not the decade.

The next big bug is the Y2K38 bug. The original implementation of Unix uses a 32-bit signed integer for the number of seconds since midnight, Jan 1, 1970. That will overflow and turn into a negative number on Jan 19, 2038. Affected devices will suddenly think it's December 1901.

DOS-based systems will experience a similar issue in 2080, but Windows won't have a rollover issue until 30,828. Most modern Unix systems use 64-bit time, which will be good until the year 292,277,026,596.

I had optimism for the 2010s back in 2009. It was a decade of great personal growth for me, but it will be remembered as the decade the world went insane.

The 2020s are going to be an absolute nightmare. Far right populism is spreading like a wildfire, almost exclusively among the gigantic near-elderly baby boomer voting bloc. We're going to see our society ripped apart by pointless identity politics spread by sensationalist fake news on garbage social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, while the real evils of the world go completely unchecked. Ignorant feelings will continue to overpower the inconvenient truths that many people just would rather ignore.

I'm not looking forward to this decade. I don't see either myself or the planet as a whole being in a better position in 2029 than we are right now. And that's fucking sad.
