I was thinking today that I must be the most anti-social gamer ever, because even in games where it's way easier/better to group up, I like to play alone. I don't ever call for help in Dark souls or even use summons etc, and in MMO's I usually lose interest once they force you to start grouping.

Then I realized, I actually ENJOY talking about a game I am playing with others, using chat in Path of Exile for instance etc, I just don't like actually PLAYING with them. I like to deal with challenges on my own, not as part of a group. I also don't like non-turn based group/squad based games even if I control everyone.

The thing is, I don't think it's really that rare, I see other people asking about solo options all the time in MMO's etc, yet so many games make group play a huge part of their goals.

What is your feeling on playing games by yourself or with others? I did enjoy it when young with games like Doom and with groups of friends but as an adult it's pretty much all been solo for me by choice.

I enjoy carrying people in MMOs, to an extent. If they're just dead weight then it's a bit annoying. I definitely do prefer soloing things for the most part just to prove that I can do it myself but otherwise if it's group content or tedious grind I'd rather do it in a group. Something like Diablo style...it depends on if what I'm doing feels more efficient in a group and I can get the right group together.

I prefer soloing. I do hate when MMOs throw a non-optional group dungeon at you randomly.

I only played SSF in Path of Exile because it was for the personal challenge. I have an issue keeping long term relationships / commitments but I enjoy talking with people about things that I do. Before SSF was a thing I still played solo, the only difference was I abused the trade system to be a good player. In the end I was still able to do same content in SSF as I was in Trade League, it just took me 2-3 times longer for example, to kill Uber Elder.

Playing Dota right now, and I prefer to play alone because I don't know how to find a group of people to play with, and even then I don't think I would "pull my weight" when playing with them. This is also why I have issues with MMOs, I prefer to pug, except in STO where I've been historically one of the most prolific players during the times I played for any significant amount of time (e.g. people not on my fleet/clan remember who I am, even if I hadn't played in a long time).

Also even back in my Runescape days, people would recognize my name on other sites. Back when reddit first started being popular people were like Are you the Secret Dragoon from Zybez? All of that time I was never part of any major Runescape clan because I'd rather interract with the community through discussion instead of having a tight group.

Now I really regret all of this. I feel like I've missed out on so much, so many secret clubs I could have gotten into big trouble with and secret knowledge I could have learned, but all of that's in the past. Still waiting for my next opportunity to be that guy again.

I am mostly a soloist as well. I do like playing with the right people. If they take the game too seriously, I usually back out and keep soloing.

I was fortunate to play with a bunch of really cool people in my ffxi days, and still keep on touch with most of them.

I am planning on jumping into Phantasy Online 2 once it launches (hopefully in the next few months) here in the US finally. I always played solo in the original PSO, but I may actually join up with a group in this game.

I kinda would like to join with a larger guild/group of people, especially if I could just party up sometimes and still play solo most of the time.

When it comes to multiplayer, I vastly prefer the experience of hanging out with friends in the same room and playing a game, but its been years since I got to do that. I don't play online games.

I would have done this if it wasn't locked behind Windows 10 nonsense. Zero chance I can play it on Linux because of Microsoft's stupid DRM.

I'm very much single player orientated. Even in online games like GTA or Red Dead Online I prefer to play solo. I don't mind seeing other folk online doing their own thing providing it doesn't effect my game much if at all. I also mute mics and ignore most messages.

I am the same way. I am all for group content, as long as I dont have to participate. And if its required for end game gear, then the game is not for me.
