This morning several people shared a story on social media from a local news publication that utilized an analysis of a tax cut we ultimately passed.

And I've spoken with a couple of people running for state house and they've been using some of the data I shared with them in their talking points and stuff.

I mean I know neither of those things are really a big deal and someone else would do it if I didn't but its still kind of a trip to sit back and think about it, like huh, I did that.

What goes behind analyzing tax cuts? My impression of it is just politicians throwing shit out there

Well in my case we use a proprietary model that utilizes various pieces of administrative and demographic data so I don't actually need to know all that much lol

But it's pretty straightforward, so like we cut the top income tax rate, it's pretty easy to project how much revenue you'll lose and what income bracket will benefit most from that

In practice, though, you're correct that many politicians ultimately don't care much about the actual consequences of their legislation outside of how it impacts their ability to get re elected.
